We have not have a chameleon yet, but thinking of getting one! I have two questions. I see a lot of cages where they have sticks in the middle of there cage that go across the cage, for example

(This is not my cage) I wonder can I have bamboo sticks instead of wooden sticks across it.
Lastly, can I have a paper towel substrate.

looks great! id put more leafy coverage, tbh. he has to be able to hide from you to feel safe. bamboo will work but there isnt much grip on it., youd be better off with vines or sticks with bark on them. sticks are free too!

Paper towels work fine as substrate. If you don't use anything it is very easy to wipe down the bottom of the cage for a weekly cleaning.
Bamboo can be slippery when wet. Using sticks that are a variety of thicknesses is recommended to prevent bumble foot, an ulceration that happens when they always stand on the foot the same way.
