Once a cham is "full grown" does it just stop shedding or do they never really stop growing?

I can never keep mine alive... I keep them in a big plastic tub, there is no top on it, I keep tons of egg cartons in it for them and I have a dish that their food sits on, orange cubes, kale, lettuce, collard greens, etc. ya know, but once I buy them, almost half die after about 4 or 5 days...
