Hi all,
This topic came up the other night when i was talking to my friend because i didn't have crickets for a day. I'm curious, how long can a chameleon last without crickets or other live feed? My chameleon tends to eat plants, will that tie him over for a long time? Just want to get a feel for chameleons because i know that other reptiles can last a rather long time without food, such as snakes.

It depends. What type of chameleon and how old and what plants is he eating.

Most popular chameleons like veileds and panthers can go a day or so without food, as long as they have water. Adults can go 2-3 days, like if you go on vacation or something. Veileds are hardier and can probably go longer, their natural habitat is harsher and they're built to handle adversity better. Veileds also naturally eat plants to get moisture because their natural habitat suffers droughts.

I probably wouldn't let any under 5 months go more than a day.

When I go on vacation, I have someone drop by every other day to give a double ration of food, and make sure there is water.
