Not using laying bin

My panther is laying eggs on top of the dirt in her laying bin. She didn't dig a hole at all. No test holes or anything only 6 eggs so far. The dirt is moist but not to moist and is 24 inches deep. What do I do? I need help.

Here are pics of her and the set up.

Did she lay anymore eggs? I see you said just six. Is she eating and drinking? Are you sure that she didn't bury any?

Last 2 pics. Any help would be great.

No more eggs yet. She is eating and drinking fine. Not a lot of food but some. She is climbing around the cage a lot. All over it.

I haven't taken the bin out yet to see if she buried any. the dirt doesn't looked touched, and she never had dirt on her face. When she goes to sleep tonight I am going to take the bin out and look.

I would make sure that the soil you have has the right moisture. I have a female nosy that won't lay if it is just a little dry. I also put a fake vine with leaves into the soil so that she can tunnel right next to it as if it's real.

How do I know if it is the right moisture? I watched the video, and it seems fine. Maybe when she sleeps I will check for eggs and add more water.

You want it moist but not soggy. Hard to describe. Enough so that if she tunnels to the bottom it won't colapse on her. I personally use play sand. You may want to put her in a large trash with the soil and a plant for her to pirch on. Then just put a heat light on the edge.

Only 6 eggs is not a normal size clutch. If she were mine I'd get her an Xray and see if there's more eggs. She might need a shot or two of oxytocin.

The laying bin looks small. I moisten the sand/dirt and stir it with a big spoon. I flatten it out on the top and then dig a slanted hole all the way to the bottom and make sure the soil will hold the tunnel. I leave the tunnel and sometime the girls will use it. The girls can be picky. You might try using a different kind of laying bin. Has she ever laid eggs before?

This is her first time laying eggs. I am going to redo the laying bin, and if that doesn't work take her to the vet.

Give her a sand box, moist enough to clump into a ball in your hand. A lot of my chams won't lay in soil. And the soil looks kind of chunky not fine and ground.

Also have you tried making a starter hole for her in the soil? Also sometimes clawing up the soil so it is easier to dig in does the trick for me.

I switched to a cactus soil last night half soil half sand. When I get home from work I am going and try the starter holes. I am going to do 2 or 3.

8 is typically not normal, she is probably egg-bound. If no more eggs show up take her to get an x-ray. If she is egg-bound and she does not get help she will die. Something obviously stressed her, or there is something wrong with the soil like moisture like was stated b4. Have u done anything different lately?

Thank you for the starter hole idea. She laid 8 more eggs tonight for a total of 16 eggs. She looks skinny and tired now. I am going to feed her french toast and eggs first thing when she wakes up.
