Ok so I'm getting a 3 month old panther and I have some ideas for his future setup but this is for when he arrives til whenever he outgrows it...
I started at about 9am this morning and it's 8pm at night now as I type this.
Dimensions: 24"Wx12"Dx24"T
Plants (from left to right)
(1)Chiffon Breeze Hibiscus (Smallest i could find)
(2)Unknown Named house plant, Was labled generically for indoor houseplants, have seen them in other's pictures for their setups, good for collecting dripping water. I actually wanted a corn plant but could not get one of suitable size.
(3)Unknown Ficus (believed to be the bejamina variety)
I repotted all the plants. - plain supersoil with a few small rocks on the bottom for better drainage, and then covered with path stones(smooth) for appearance and cham safety. It does also help keep the soli moist which I don't forsee as a problem after the first day of watering. After 10+ hours it is still moist and then some which worries me because I'll have to make sure it dries out when watering.
I prefer terracotta pots for this reason, it allows the humidity inside the pots seep out, and you can actually feel this by touching the terracotta. I tried a couple hybrid/glazed terracotta pots for better apearance, and now I kinda regret it because they dont seem to ventilate as well. Probably still alot better than plastic though.
I did have to trim the hibiscus and the ficus, because, well, I was taught to do that when you repot. I trimmed the flowers off the Hibiscus to encourage more flowers. Off the ficus I had to remove a few dead branches and thinned it out a bit to clean it up and a bit off the top so it fits better in the habitat.
before any watering in the empty cage it the humidity was 40-45.
Three branches from my Loquat tree in the backyard were cut and trimmed to appropriate size. I still need to bake them - but they semm to fit in well. They are behind the plants from the front. Although I typically don't have alot of traffic/people in my bedroom I wanted them behind so my cham can hide if he feels like it.
After the plants were added and the first misting (by hand) The humidity was over 80%.
after about an hour it was down to about 60-65 (depending where in the cage) and has stayed there all day.
the temp during the day was mid 70's with about 95-97 directly under the spot lamp at the top of the Hibiscus. On great weather days like today in socal, I often open the window to the right of the Habitat, just cause, well it's nice outside (to me). Unfortuanately I only get direct sunlight right in the morning.
I have a ZooMed Reptisun 5.0 24" florescent lamp.
On the right side is a 75 watt repti spot lamp also from ZooMed.
All measuremenets were done with my analog guages from ZooMed.
Thanks.
