Could this be a thing?

I saw this video on youtube and was wondering if could be a good idea for chameleon cages. I'm not sure what the best way would be to protect the wood or maybe just leave it unfinished. . I've been thinking of ways to make this project easier but haven't had any great ideas yet and would love to hear your opinions.

Maybe I'm under thinking this but wouldn't it just be easier to jig saw out the size circle you need from a single sheet of plywood. Are you considering making cylindrical cages?

Ps As for baby proofing maybe a time out or three would be even easier.

I think using a jig saw could work for most cage situations but in this video the tree was just too large. I have a reptibreeze 2x2x4 rage right now that I'd put this in if I were to make one.
