Madagascar Hiss. Roaches

I have a great breeding pair of veileds that i spoil like crazy.

My female has laid 3 clutches total and shes about 2 years old. My male is 20 months old. Ill post a pic of them soon.

I just bought them 4 madagascar hissing roaches the other day and they are enormous. I m a little hesitant to feed them to my veileds due to the sharp claws on the roaches.

Has anyone else feed their chams these (Large Mads.)?

Are they safe to eat?

If it is the size of the space between her eyes she can eat it. An adult hisser is too big.

I use hissers for my panthers. "Adult" hissers can range in size, so whether or not the ones you have are too big is hard to say.
Hissers can grow up to about 6.5 cm (2.5 inches) long. If yours are that big, they are indeed too big.
If the hissers seem to big, they probably are. Keep the hissers to make babies and use the nymphs as feeders instead :)

Mad hissers

... and a Parsonii male with same result. Morel of the story is, breed your two pair of hissers ( I mean your trio ) I would wait for your female(s) to have babies, and feed off the smaller and medium sized Hissers. My Parson's love the medium sized roaches. From your picture I'd say you got mediums to big.

Let the hissers breed and feed appropriate sized nymphs. Also they are really soft right after they molt, but once they harden up their exoskeleton is pretty hard compared to the typical feeder roaches.

But they are actually quite nice. Fairly slow. Interesting social behaviour.

I've had Bob the hisser for several years. He knows the sound of my voice and crawls out when called for a special food treat.

Are you serious? I've had a turtle that did that, but I would never guess a cockroach possessed that kind of intellect!
