Cost of Shipping Chameleons

I have agreed to re-home a 1-year-old male from FLChams Newton bloodline. When we got to the shipping info I was told by the owners that it should cost me around $57. Now the people sending 'Rambo' to us said that the UPS store charged them $121.37 to ship him overnight to ship from N.C. to Texas. Did they do something wrong or did UPS overcharge them? That's a lot, especially since FLChams only charges $50 for shipping. Any ideas or comments???

Call ups yourself maybe and get a quote? Then you could arrange delivery yourself if the person giving you the Cham would b ok with that?

Keep in mind when a Company like FLChams has a flat fee they have either negotiated this with the carrier due to volume or just figure they will lose on some and win on to others and have determined this is the ideal price to cover their costs.

Depending on hub locations and service levels costs can vary from zip code to zip code. I would personally request that a chameleon be shipped from hub to hub, meaning you pick up at the hub and they ship at the hub, this minimizes handling and costs. You could also be getting stuck with a premium charged by the store shipping it.

I would think it wouldn't be unfair for someone adopting out to charge a packaging and transport fee themselves in addition to the UPS / Fed Ex cost but they should at least tell you up front.

Booking without an account directly at UPS.com or FedEx.com will get you retail rates.

Booking at ShipYourReptiles.com, a ChamForum sponsor, will get you at least 20% off of the retail rate.

Booking at The UPS Store gets you retail plus$$. That would be the most expensive way to book that shipment, unfortunately.
