Catch Dripper Water

Hey I'm wondering what some of you guys use to catch the water from your drippers. I'm wanting to add a dripper to one of my current cages that doesnt have drainage. Should I use some kind of Tupperware container with aluminum screen on top so my Cham can't drink or fall in it? I just ordered a different cage so I can actually have drainage. This method will only be for about a week or so. I'd rather manually mist this cage and use a dripper than his automated misting system. Thanks so much. Pics if you have them too.

Ya, I just have trays/bowls the majority of the extra water falls into, which I empty daily.

I use that for all my drippers. I use the big square plastic containers you can buy at the grocery store. Easy. Then, I bought a cover for a big light fixture at home depot that is a mesh that is easy to cut that I put over the top and put a clothes pin on it so it wouldn't slip off the container. Works great and catches all the water and the poop. Of course the cham has to poop in the water. Never fails. I will go take a picture now of what I do.

I really appreciate the details and pics Jan. The tray idea sounds great too. I guess I'll take a trip to Lowes tomorrow and see if I can find some good screen. I have aluminum but I'm not sure how that will do with the water. I have wayyy too much, so I don't care to change it every once in a while. But I did see some more bendable screen last time I was there.

It's confusing because they are all marketed towards preventing bugs, but the majority of them don't. It's a little off topic but I had to throw that one out there. Lol.

My Veiled is so picky. Bodhi won't drink unless water is dropping or shooting from the top of his cage. I seriously think that when the water is moving like that, he shoots at it because he wants to kill it. He doesn't even realize that its water. He just sees something moving and is like.. "What the crap, get this out of my cage". Lol.

My Ambilobe will drink all day long. He doesn't care where it's at or what it's on. He prefers water drops though. So I thought Bodhi could have the dripper half the time, and when it runs out, Loki can borrow it.

I tried screen but the water runs off the screen onto the cage floor and then onto my floor. Plus, it is hard to keep the screen on the plastic bowl. Home depot has two different sizes of these fixture grids so you don't have to get a giant one for one cham, but they are easy to cut so you can have the size you need. I use the stuff all over the place so I get the big one. I use a piece on top of my cages so I don't put weight on top of my screen with all the stuff that ends up on top of the cage sometimes. I also use it on baby bins to help keep the lights a good distance away from them so they don't burn or cook.

I put a jar-ish type container in (think big pickle jar), and use an old clamp light dome turned upside down like a funnel to catch the water. It works pretty well!

I've actually thought of, I doubt I would do it but any input would be appreciated. I was going to set up a tank heater and a tray on top, set up on a timer to simply evaporate the water and to raise the humidity. Any thoughts on this one??

Might get a cooked Cham...

Well a screen like Jan is using here would prevent drowning or Burns due to a fall, right? Have it on a timer and the bottom temps shouldn't get too high. It was an idea I thought was worth a wirl.

Will have to search the DIY stores in England, sounds like something pretty easy to find but extremely useful =) thanks for the tip!

I'm going to get a drain from the hardware store and then use fleece and fiberglass resin to get the basic form of a slopped bottom, then I'm going to use fiberglass mat to build it up some. After that I'll coat it with some epoxy based paint (like they use to refinish bathtubs) and it should be hard as rock and drain very nicely into a bucket.

Which section of Home Depot do they have the grids Jan? I never find exactly what I'm looking for at Lowes. Home Depot is the bomb though. But because I live in a smaller town, most of these places don't usually carry what I need. Hopefully they will have these though!
