basking lamp for turtle?

I'm picking up a razor back musk turtle this week- a little baby one. We have the tank set up & a uvb tube, do we need a basking lamp? The water is heated.

My cousin uses one on hers and it seems to enjoy having the option. Make sure the land area is has is big enough to have a temp gradient so it can choose.

cool, thanks. We'll have to rethink the layout of the lid. We've got a typical fish-tank hood but I think we'll have to use mesh to acomodate a heat lamp.

She ended up going with a 20 gallon long that had a slide out screen top that could handle handle water. Then she got one of those plastic (zoomed?) turtle docks and made an island out of river rocks (with a tunnel going through it so it functioned as an underwater hide AND an island!) She put the lamp over a corner on the plastic dock.

nice idea! I've got a turtle dock, a chunk of wood & some plants. I need to sort out a little hide. I'll position the heat lamp on part of the turtle dock
