Sherman's is 6 months old! Weigh in, a new feeder and A NEW TRUST
Sherman is 6 months old this weekend. Its been a crazy few months with my new cham. The learning curve is pretty steep with so much having been redone with his terrarium and husbandry from my previous chams as I learn more and attempt new methods.
THE WEIGH IN
Today I weighed Sherman. He allowed me to capture him with hardly any fuss. I placed him on the scale. His official weight today is 35 grams or 1.25 oz. My boy is growing.
A NEW TRUST
Today was also a huge trust milestone. Today marks the first time he actually walked out onto my hand on his own. Well, I has a Super Worm as a bribe, but he didn't hesitate at all walking onto my palm to grab the worm. After he ate it I carefully lifted him and put him back in the terrarium. Of course the camera was rolling so I can share this with the forum: I sure hope I'm not the only one who talks to his cham like its a dog or something.... It still amazes me how quick he changes colors. Form the blue to a brownish green!!
THE NEW FEEDER
We received our bi-weekly order of crickets from Josh's Frogs. If anyone has been following the forums, I have been looking into keeping Dubia's for Sherman to add to his diet. Well, his package came today with a little something extra- Dubias! Ok, so just a small amount (50) to see how they work out. They weren't gut loaded so I didn't want to feed them to Sherman, but I gave him a few "samples' and he gobbled them! I plan on giving him a "blend" of crickets and Dubias tomorrow to see if he has a preference.
Of course weekends are for Super Worms! So all in all he ate about 10 crickets, 3 super worms and 2 Dubia today. My little piggy.
A SURPRISE
Shedding again!! This was so cool to see it occur first hand over several hours! I have come home to find the "little outgrown cloths" he shed, but never see it from start to finish. Quick!! I noticed it on his back then within a few hours it had "spread".
Then a few hours later:
THE ISSUES
I worked on his standing water issue with 2 minute mistings 4x a day, I think I have a solution. I reprogrammed my humidity controller to work as a dehumidifier and with the fans I have can control the humidity, but not the standing water (drainage issue). I will need to finish up the fan wiring and hard wiring it into the controller. I bought some cheap plastic trays to see if I can catch enough water as I recorded where the water drip from and pools. For now I will need to drain the trays daily, but I clean out his terrarium and his feeder trough daily anyways. Sherman put up with me purposefully flooding his terrarium and cleaning it all to figure out the proper fan and voltages to control my humidity issue and to have longer mistings for Sherman. I still have a ways to go before I'm done tweaking.
What a busy day! I'm writing about it hoping I don't forget anything, and Sherman is in his pajamas sleeping like a baby.
This was not from today, but it's a beautiful picture, one of my favorites. I call it "Color".
