Shedding Story

Well, Ive only had my little dude for a few weeks, and this is the first time I have seen him shed. And WOW is it totally different than my Uromastyx. I came home from school between classes the other day, and his skin looked like a Humvee that had been hit by an IED. I was like WOW. My uromastyx sheds in sections over about a weeks time, and he loves it when I help him out and help pull bits of skin off, but I know chams have super sensitive skin and dont like it. So story goes, I was sitting at my kitchen table, right next to his cage, and I saw him scratching at his eye, like REALLY going at it. So I quickly opened the cage and yanked his little butt out before he ripped his eyeball off with his gnarly ninja sharp claws. His skin from around his eyeball was coming off, but it was pulled out from the base of the eye socket, so that all the skin was hanging right where his actual eyeball was, and i could tell it was agonizing. So like I do with all my animals, and sometimes humans, if the situation arises, I provided on the spot medical attention. I grabbed him by the chest in between my thumb and pointer finger. As I had him pinned down and under control, I dripped warm water onto his skin/eyeball and used a toothpick to carefully remove the skin from his eye. after i got the skin off, he just stood there on my hand and stared at me, both eyes forward, the way he does when hes about to eat. After this moment, for the past few days, the connection between me and him has been insane. After pulling this little dudes eye skin off, its like he cant get enough of me. He loves me even more now. Anyone else have a similar story involving skin being stuck to the eye?

Woof, had to get through with that super paragraph!

From what I've seen here it's definitely not recommended to physically assist in shed. Spraying, warm water, shower...yes. But pulling it off can be a problem. It also isn't a chameleons favorite thing to be "pinned" down but I assume that's based on his attitude.

Glad to see the guy looks nice in his fresh skin, just try and spray more with warm water when you know he's shedding and is going to "scratch his eye-ball out".

sorry about the super paragraph. my wife says i talk alot. but yea, i dont want to stress him out, but the situation called for it i believe. Hes got a fogger system running all the time on one side of his cage, i think thats why he is shedding like crazy. I had a black and tan coon hound that scratched the hell out of her eye one time, so when i saw him trying to mess with the optical balls, i was like NO NO NO. ME FIX. hes cool. im excited to wake him up in an hour and feed him. its super worm day =D =D =D

Yeah all kinds of lizards are funny about eating, they act like puppies! My little guy paces around his cage at his usual "food time". It seems most of them come to the front of the screen and look at you.

*Telepathy* Giant walking tree do as I command and bring me my sacrifices!

Just be careful with that shed :)

My goodness, is it just me or was that one of the most painful paragraphs you have ever had the misfortune of reading on these forums?!
It was almost as if your situation was being explained to us by a 9yr old with ADD!
Also on a side note, your attempt at being funny with your battlefield analogies probably will not be appreciated by members of this forum who have actually been to war, or know someone who has.
