Near death experience :(

So I decided to get a carpet cham, though I should have asked forum people first who to go through. This 'breeder' on kingsnake said she was CB though talking to other people who have dealt with her now I'm sure shes WC. I was expecting her today at 10:30, it was getting hot around that time but not to bad. 10:30 came and went, no cham. Delivery was DHL who apparently gaurantee before 12!!! She was an hour away from me at 9am but I didnt recieve her til 12. I knew when I held the box it was going to be bad....it was hot to the touch, temps had quickly risen to the high 90s by then. I quickly opened the box to see a dark cham, laying on her side, I thought she was dead for sure. I opened her up and lightly touched her, then she moved! I quickly called the nearest vet and they saw me right away (thanks ARK!). They gave her sub-Q fluids and antibiotics and though the vet said she isnt sure she will make it due to the stress by the time I got her back she was greenish and holding on to a branch. Shes soaking in some UVB light right now, and I have medicine to feed her.....we'll see if she pulls through.

How could they let her get like this?! The box didnt even say 'live animals'....she almost wasnt :(

You need to post the name of this breeder cause that's certainly a red flag seller.

I totally agree! That's just horrible what they did to him. I too wish you all the best for her recovery. Good heads up taking him
straight to the vet.

please let us know who that is

i would never want to buy a chameleon from someone who does not know how to ship one

The so called 'breeder' was Danielle Fields Geckos. I found her ad on Kingsnake, I already posted my story on the BOI too. I just feel bad for the next cham she sells who might not be so lucky.
Thank you for all your support, I will keep you updated. Lets all cross our fingers!

Good luck to you and your lil guy. hope he pulls through.

I think we need a forum with reputable as well as "bad" dealer/breeder lists.

Something with a complete list of dealers/breeders, each having a rating (given by people who have personally dealt with said dealer/breeder), and links to threads like this one.

put it under the resources header.

Sorry to hear about your incedent. I hope all goes well. I check out kingsnake everyday. I do notice they sell alot on there.
Thanks for the heads up. I wont ever be buying from them.

There was another seller on there that also didnt know what he was talking about. I called because i was interested in buying a female panther. He had no idea what he was talking about. I dont want to mention his name because hes a memeber of the forums. known for selling feeders thats all i want to say. Very unprofessional on the phone too.

I agree with you dsign. Roni go check out the breeder that sold you that Cham and see what he has to say. Maybe its not his fault maybe it is. It was his fault for not labeling live animal at least. Cant give him a red flag yet because they need a chance to do the right thing.

What an eye you have Trace! (lets see some of that artwork you never have a chance to do. I sing the same song:()

I did a quick Google search of "Danielle Fields Geckos" and found some interesting reading material.

There is certainly some sort of skullduggery afoot! (multiple names, many complaints about "improper shipping/packaging", animals paid for yet never received etc.)

Let the buyer be ... WHAT??? (lots of great breeders right here on the forum, no need to look for a "bargain")

Best of luck, i'm sure everyone here is with you 110%. Thanks for taking such good care of her and acting so quickly. Hope she pulls through.

Sad News

Well, I tried but the little guy just got worse and worse. I was force feeding and watering but he hardly had any energy. Last night I was struggling with the decision to Euthanize, I wanted to give him a fighting chance but this morning he pretty much made up my mind for me. I found him hidden in his plant (fallen off his leaf perch) on his side, pretty much lifeless. I took him to my hospital and even though our Dr doesnt usually see reptiles she was nice enough to put him down for me. I feel so bad for him, he was beautiful even though he was sick. I wish I could have seen him well. Thanks for all your support and kind words. He is off in Cham heaven now, I'm sure basking in some sun.
:(

Roni-I am so sorry-I know how hard you tried. It is never easy losing these guys. I wish you the best of luck in finding a healthy new carpet.
