Parsonii can handle some direct sunlight just as long as they have got a shade spot that they can escape too. Their super soft scales is a big concern though.
I have found they are just like plants, after being under artificial lights they are VERY sensitive to sunlight so break them in slowly by taking them outside on cloudy days at first.

I concur with you that chameleons have got similar husbandry requirements to plants. Especially with Calumma parsonii in general as many plants require a cool down period to productively reproduce for agricultural purposes. Parsonii are similar as requiring a cool down period to thrive and apparently reproduce too.

Yes Jeremy I break them in to natural sunlight so their UV sensitive skin does not burn.
