I have a female Jack, I've had her for 2 yrs, I'm guessing she's around 2.5 yrs.
I caught her when whe was around 3" TL, right now she's around 11".
I never intended to breed her because I didn't want to stress my Jacks and I don't know what I'd do with the babies, but now I'm wonderin if I should.
I've always kept Jacks in large walk in pens where I could keep a male with several females and let them breed if and when they wanted. Now I choose to keep my Jacks in their own 2x2x4 cages, and hadling is kept to a minimum. I think I handled her twice since I caught her, only because I had to move her to a larger enclosure.
My sudden change of heart comes because she's gone thru 2 false pregnancies. This last one she had 30+ yolks. Poor gal ,you can see her going thru all the motions of a pregnant female, not eating much in the last couple weeks.
My concerns are:
What to do with the babies? ( I guess I could just let them go since they're running wild around here. )
Is it O.K if she never breeds?
Since physical contact with my Jacks are very limited is it worth the extra stress of handling?
If I did breed her, how long after her last drop of yolks should I introduce the male?
Right now they are all happy and healthy in their own cages. I'd really hate to mess that up.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
