i bought a female ambilobie from someone last night i didn't notice her eye last night but today i see she is keeping it closed i gave her a shower and she had it opened for a wile and then i took her outside for some California sun and then she closed it again

i gave her another shower again and the same thing happened again she kept it open for a wile and then closed it again there is no puss or anything coming out of her eye what could it be

or what should i do

i have read that it is bad if her eye is red but her eye was not even red

terimyicin i have some or can pick u some up tomorrow cause im coming out there tomorrow

The one thing to remember is that it probably has nothing to do with her eye. Like you said, it is never a good thing when their eyes are closed. It doesnt mean something is wrong with their eyes, but that something is wrong. Now you have to play detective and find out what it is before it is too late. Did the person you buy it from give you any kind of warranty? You might want to consider giving her back. Almost every time i have had a cham with a closed eye they end up, well you know. It's really tricky because you have to find out first what the problem is. Check all the usual stuff first. The shower was a great place to start. Does she look dehydrated? Does she look like she has an eye problem? Like is there any swelling or bruising? If not, start looking elsewhere.

there is no swelling no bruising she looked a little dehydrated and therefore i gave her 2 showers today after the showers she was using her eye until she went outside and then again i brought her inside and she was using it again

could it be that there is something in her eye ?

can one eye be burned by to high uvb exposure maybe why sun makes her close again but i realy duno just a thought

If she has an eye infection terramycin may work. She can also have something in her eye, or can have hurt it. Try and give her water, the vet I know says "like a rain, not mist" so I would try that. It usually helps get anything in ther eye.

the person i got her from did not know to much about chameleons he kept her outside at all times

how would i know if she has an infection wouldn't there be puss or something coming out of her eye?

also how can i get something out of her eye if there is something in her eye ?

im not sure if i should put terimyicin in her eye because i dont know if she needs that should i use it anyway ?

i put the shower water on the wall the first time and second time i put half of it on her cage but all she did was close both eyes and sway from left to right

:confused:becareful the amount of showers/day, as the whole thing is probably prettys traumatic to your cham especially if you just got it home. ;)

one thing you may consider which may be kind of risky, is to just heavy mist your cham, and watch to see if some kind of drainage shows. If it does you would want to start some kind of antibiotic regiment or even get your cham to a vet. If it doesn't change you are back on the Diagnositic tree. ;)

It may be some kind of mechanical trauma, in which case you are already doing the right things with your showers and misting. There was an earlier posting regarding saline solution flushing, where you would use saline an drip it over the eye. This may be a little more comfortable for your cham.:)

Other things to consider are a Vit A deficiency which even harder to Diagnose from what I read.

I would keep up with heavy misting and see what happens in the next 24hours.:D

Hope that helps and your chams makes a full recovery either way.

when i got her it was last night at around 11 i got home and put them to sleep and then woke up at 10 and took her outside and saw her eye was closed then i gave her a shower and then put her back outside and then went got some new plants for her cage came back showerd her again and then out her outside again

while she was outside i was misting her plenty of times about every 10 min because it was really hot today

does anyone else have any sugg should i use Terramycin because it seems everyone is using that for their eye problems

she opens her eyes for a little wile and then closes them

It should help, I like putting terramycin at night. It seems to bug there eyes more in the daytime.

You could try the Terramycin for a few days but if did not show major improvement, I would get her to the vet. If you wait to long to go to the vet, the vet may not be able to help her....it could be to late. Jann

Try a soaked cotton ball with saline...gently press it onto the closed eye while squeezing some of the solution. She may have debris in her eye and needs a little more to wash it out. Be very gentle. Chameleons eyes are delicate.
