I've seen to many types of thermometers.Does anyone recommend a certian one.that would be greatly apperciated

I know you're looking for a brand or model, and honestly I dont have a preference to share. I have six different models (honeywell, enviracaire, control company, oregon, springfield, powertronics) and they're all good enough.

But I recommend getting two :) One for the top /basking area and one for the middle or lower end, so that you can easily see the gradient is good. Even three, so that you can double -check that the ones you have are in fact reading accurately. :)

Yes, monitoring humidity is important.

I tend to get guages that do both, all in one. I also like the ones that store high and low values, so that you know not only what the current temp and humidty is, but also what the lowest and highest temp and humidty have been since you last checked/reset (such as over night or during the day when you werent there)

alright I think I have a better idea of what to get.I know what heat to keep the cage in,but how about humidity wat are good levels?

Walmart sells one that measures three things: humidity, temp and temp at the probe for roughly $13. The humidity level depends on what type of cham do you have.

When shopping the gauge type thermometer/hygrometer I like to lay out 5-6 of them side-by-side at the store and pick from the bunch that seem to be showing roughly the same value. There is always one that is WAY off compared to the others. Just picking the next one on the shelf worries me that I might have gotten the crappy one so that's why I layout 5-6 first. Just a thought.

well I found two one that reads both humidity and temp and one just for temp.so will these be a good way to go?I buying both.

well I've been looking for digital thermometer but no luck.I found one on lllreptile that reads both temp and humidity but no just temp, the only one I see there is over $100 so any ideas on where to get one?

Why wouldnt you want one that does both humidity and temp?

I've cheap ones (between $10 and $100) in Capital Iron, Home depot, canadian tire, london drugs, shoppers drug mart, all sorts of places! Where do you live? (you might consider entering this info in your profile, so that people can help you more specifically if they live in your area)

oh yeah I'm getting the double one just looking for a thermometer by itself. So home depot should have them huh thanx

I use an infrared, you point and shoot. I can get the temperature of the Cham if I want. Use it for bug cities as well, just open the top, and temp the bottom and top levels. I think it was $15.00 plus some shipping.

CHEERS!!!

couple of choices:
1. Acurite digital thermometer with humidity gauge

2. Tempgun. (Point at what you want to measure)

3. Analog (ughhh)

I used #1 and #2.
But, I used PE-3 high end tempgun (Really not necessary. PE-2 is more than enough).

HEre's what PE-3 looked like

(AGAIN, not necessary.. I just like to get that one as I can also use that to measure extreme temp such as my car's engine :D)

I ike to get the ZooMed temp guages. I have a bunch just laying around giving me info. I have them in my incubator for eggs I have one in my silkworm incubator I have them in my cages for the chams....
