O.K. My bug order just arrived. 30 very tiny hornworms for the babies, phoenix for Frogg and the dragon, and 50 large, wait LARGE dubias!!!! I took the plunge after so many have used them. Not realizing they are like 4 INCHES long!!!!! I don't think I can take them out of the container....... much less my eyes off of them!!! What if they get out when I'm not watching!!!!!!! I need a pep talk......this is sad :p.

4 inches long? Are you sure you didn't get hissing cockroaches instead?

Dubias can't climb vertical surfaces and are not fast runners. I've only ever found a few of them around the house, that apparently escaped from my chams' cages.

If you are hosting a dinner party, and one walks into the dining room, just "accidentally" knock over one of the centerpiece candles to light the table cloth on fire. Your guests will never notice the cockroach as they stampede out the door and onto your front lawn. Your reputation for good housekeeping will remain untarnished and you will have plenty of time to dispose of the cockroach before the fire trucks arrive.

Hope this helps!:)

HAHA! Are you speaking from personal experience? :D

They still kinda gross me out. But as creepy as dubia are, they are the cleanest feeders ive ever seen. They dont smell at all really. And they will eat anything i put in their tub.

I don't understand why they freak people out really. They're harmless, if your keeping them, you know where they've been & what they've been eating. How can they hurt you? To me, being scared of dubia is like being scared of the dark or the boogie man. Even your chams aren't afraid of them & they're afraid of everything!! :p

O.K. u got me. I did embellish a little.....the large males are close to 3" tho which is still too big for me!!! I did manage to get them in the tank, and figured out they can't climb out. Frogg has proven to be as big as a wuss as I am. When he saw it, he tried to climb out of his cage!!!! It is now in the deli cont in his cage and he will only look at it. :p I will remember how distract the guests in the house tho!!! Only, I work with the firefighters and they know me well enough to know I was up to something!!! My husband was not happy when I told him the dubia were coming. He is NOT gonna be happy. Anyone have extra room for me and a few chams and a dragon???? I'll bring the feeders :D

See, that's like my nightmare....I keep toying with the idea of ordering dubia, but then, I think something like this might happen. What can you do with a way too big roach like that? I'm sure it's ecologically unsound to set it free.

Breed them. I plan to try to forget about them.......and we'll see! At least my beardie likes them!!! But then again, he'll eat anything that moves:D Even the large ones.

Let me know how that works, okay? Particularly the part about trying to forget about them...I'm sure I'd be waking up in the middle of the night thinking I heard them....

Come on over!! Wisconsin is just a hop, skip & a jump from Montana.

Don't worry about the dubia, if you have a dragon any excess males will thrill the dragon. Dubia are my dragons very favorite food. If I let them they would eat dibia everyday. But 4 dragons x 4 bugs = no roach colony.:(

Even my 5 gram jackson loves tiny dubia.

Thanx Laurie!!! I'm gonna introduce some tiny ones, if I can find some, or make some to the baby chams. Frogg so far won't touch 'em. He even went as far as getting very fired up over it in his cage!!! Winston is my garbage can!! (beardie) It moved, he ate it :D!

I don't think I'll ever do roaches. yuck. I will pick up any cricket or worm, but the roaches...

Actually, my husband refuses to allow them in the house, and I can't say that I blame him! I had to talk him into letting me keep crickets because we have had a scorpion problem in our house the past 2 years. :p

I didn't tell my husband until they got here!!! He didn't want me to get them either. Now that they are here, it's not so bad. Don't tell, but I've picked up some of the smaller ones .

LOL! If i actually WANTED to touch the roaches, I would just do it too at this point haha. Half the time I'm tempted to just bring home new chams and see how long I can get away with it for!:D

That's why I started my free ranges!! I figure this way he'll never know how many I really have!!! I'll just keep expanding the free range. He'll never notice all of the extra googly eyes!!!:D
I didn't really WANT to touch them. Just got sick of trying to catch them with the tongs. It's like trying to eat with chopsticks, which is hard enough with out your food moving :p!!
