My dog got attacked by another dog. Getting surgery today.

My poor pug-chihuahua mix got attacked by (an otherwise friendly) pit puppy and he's going into surgery today to try and save his little leg. He's really torn up around the neck and his hind foot is completely dislocated from his ankle. The vet said he almost had his jugular severed and their going to try and save his foot so that he can use it.

Please send good thoughts for Coco!






PS, For anyone wondering, the pit is not going to be put down.

Im not a big fan of little dogs... But he is by far one of the cutest little dogs I have ever seen!

Awe poor baby. I do hope the vet will be able to do everything to make you baby the best he can be. With the neck injuries they may have to have some drainage tubes after the surgery. I know you baby must look a mess... but remember what you see after surgery will be better after all the healing takes place. I will be thinking positive thoughts that all will work out well. Please keep me posted.

I wasn't a fan of small dogs until I found him. He is friendly, calm, gentle, doesn't bark or jump, and is just too darn cute not to love.


Yeah, they stapled his largest wounds and he's all patchy-bald now. His little leg was dangling and swinging every which way and he was still trying to walk on it. After they gave him some strong pain meds, he was feeling MUCH better. They thought they were going to have to wait until he was put under to get his neck fixed up, but he showed them how friendly he was after a little morphine.

I hope that little devil dog gets its comeuppance!!! If its that viscious young, heaven knows what awful things it could do when its older to another dog...or worse...a person!!!

I love pitts but I believe only experienced people should own them so they can control their natural instincts to 'hunt and kill'

Coco was trying to go get the other dogs bone. They had previously gotten along well, but that bone was what started it. The puppy didn't seem to actually be trying to seriously hurt Coco, but he's so little compared to the dog that he caused some serious damage.

thats exactly what happened with my grandmas little dog he went to go get the bone from the big dog and the dog bit down so hard on the little dogs head it punctured through his brain! it was the worse thing i have ever experienced in my whole life! I'm just so glad that they can do something to save coco! please keep us updated on the little guy and let us know how he is!

Poor Coco! He's a cutie. It's great that you understand that the pit wasn't at fault. So many people just jump to conclusions.

It absolutely wasn't the other dogs fault. He just needs to be trained and watched more closely. He was just doing what he knew to do with food.

yeah same problem with my grandmas it wasn't the big dogs fault by no means the puppy didn't know better. and i still remember driving the puppy to the vet that awful noise it made sounding just like you said baby lamb i feel so bad for coco... how old is he???

Awww, that's awful! He is so cute! I saw a 'chug' puppy just before Christmas, and they are just totally adorable! I hope the vet can save his leg.

Hope all goes well. My friends mini pincher got beat up too just recently and had to get a ton of stiches. Poor little guys can't fight back

He's out and they said he should be able to use his leg again after it heals! He's staying one more night and we're getting him tomorrow.
