People eat cicadas and cicadas eat from tree's and plants, so all you have to worry about is potential parasites (not much of a problem if you do checks regularly) Possibly the cicada its self... I have tons in New Mexico they leave tons of their shells around and I'm not sure if chameleons...
My chameleon is pretty autistic when it comes to getting misted he just shakes his head aggressively instead of moving. I just angled the mister away from regular spots and onto some plants, he then waits until the mist stops to go get some water.
I would get the starter kit a T nozzle or additional nozzles you only need 1 L nozzle(comes in started pack) the T nozzles are the ones that continue the line. (edit: 1 or 2 nozzles per cage works fine depending on how huge your cage is)if you don't have any hardware stores around i would buy...

mealworms should only be occasionally and truthfully avoided in general. Silkworms are great along with Golaiths (not wild tomato ones)
I would say DIY cages are fine. Truthfully though unless you like building your own stuff (I enjoy wood working so it was fun to make my cages) its a real pain and takes time. Its really your preference and how much your willing to spend time/money.
