Flying Dubia!

Funniest thing happened. I'm just sitting here watching Family Guy and all of a sudden I hear the sound of wings flapping. Then I see the dubia fly right past my TV which is mounted about 6 feet high. I hurry up and turn the light on and find him back on the ground. I caught him and put him back in the dubia enclosure. This was the first time this has happened to me. I'm not going to tell me girlfriend, she will flip out. If she sees a cricket on the floor she will say she won't sleep here for a week. Has anyone else caught a dubia flying? I think this is the only one that was loose because one day I put a male in a feeder cup and left for the day, he most have escaped. When I put him back in the enclosure I also saw a pair mating with each other, pretty cool look just like that pic someone posted not to long ago. Lets just say there are more loose dubia in my basement, it would only be males because that is all I take out of the batch, is there a way to catch them or anything? It was pretty cool to witness one flying across my room.

That would kinda scare me at first. I ordered 50 mixed offline about 2 weeks ago. i just purchased 70 adult females and 30 adult males for 60$ so im excited but ive never seen a dubia fly. Can u post a pic of your setup i need tips and tricks on how to house them correctly. if you want you can send them to my email at [email protected] also where did you purchase your dubias at. How many do u have roughly.

I've seen them fly before, too funny !

Pedro, keep them in a "click clack" container (don't know what you guys in the USA call them), you know the plastic storage containers with the lid that has the handles you click over the lid to lock it on.
Cut out the internal part of the lid and glue some fly screen mesh over the cut-out (for ventilation).
Paint teflon OR fluon paint around the sides of the container (about 1/2 way up the sides) to stop them from climbing up the sides, then add some egg crates or paper towel rolls so they can hide and there you have an escape proof roach house!
Hope this helps!
Cheers
Scott.

Thanks for the advice. That is what i have done with my tub for them. Except I did not do a barrier to stop them from climbing out since Dubias do not climb. I just need some pictures of a setup to get tips from.

all cockroaches that have wings on them can fly..
yechhh that's why i hesitates in making them the main feeder.

I personally would rather not start my own colony, so I order small nymphs or female adults only. Only the males can fly. It is expensive to use as an occasional feeder but it is better than gettting kicked out of the house by my fiance. If she even knew I had any roaches, I would be out.

Yeah Male dubia roaches can fly but almost never do. I consider you a lucky person to see this actually happen right in front of you. It probably wont happen again though.
