cricket prob!!

I live in a house with an apt underneath me. last week the guy down stairs found a cricket under his water heater. My land lord called pest control and in within 5 mins the bill was over $200!!! I had to pay the bill of course. The pest guy said that the cricket would reproduce in the house and become a major problem. He said that they can eat materials like cotton and silk so they would ruin the whole house in a matter of time!... is this true?? I find it hard to grasp that these bugs would reproduce and cause so much damage. can someone shed some light on this for me?? Does anyone know someone I could contact?

In newfoundland no less! Call up local universities and find your local entomologist. Get a statement from him on the pest risk of crickets in a house.

I did the same thing when I got my dubia's. I had two different statements from entomologists saying that dubia's were not a pest or infestation risk in Seattle, WA.

My statements were to satisfy my wife though, not my landlord.

Don't you have crickets outside there? I would imagine they wouldn't be any more harmful than if one of them got inside. I live in the country and although i really like my house, i have never been infested with crickets (before chams). for some reason, they don't like living in here. My daughter lives downstairs and at times she tells me she finds crickets too. She solved the problem and bought 2 geckos. lol. I would think that by summertime they would all move out. Of course i don't think that would make your neighbor happy.

I have crickets running all over my place. They like to hide under my computers sub-woofer with the amp on the back (nice and warm) or they run from place to place looking for something to eat. I don't think I have found any holes in mine, or my GF's clothes due to crickets getting hungry. As for breeding.... just like the Dubia they need some help with the heat and humidity. I am not sure.... but I don't think your house has the right stuff for crickets to breed on their own.

Dang, i have a hard enough time keeping them all alive in my little cricket bucket...

Doubtful
all the crickets that have gotten out of their tubs have died (within 72 hours)
Nothing has made it into the second generation unless you count the potted plants
that are INSIDE the chameleons cages
and those all died within a weeks time.

Crickets are NOT house roaches.
