As the topic says....

The girlfriend has decided we want another snake but this one will be mine! :)

The options are either a ball python or a green tree python...

It would be a male pewter ball or a spider or even a bumblebee! (she has a female het pied so breeding combination would be interesting!

The reason it could be a green tree python is because I love arboreal reptiles! Reptiles that live in the trees are just amazing! Hence why I'm on this forum!

I've personally never owned a snake but the girlfriend has a ball python and a dumerils boa and I set there enclosures up which there thriving in so I know with the right research I'd be good hopefully!

Before you say you've never owned a snake you have to get the ball.... I have 3 panther chams with no problems so far, had a breeding pair of crocodile skinks, pair of cresties, turtles and one little leopard gecko (one of the newest members of the family but hey who hasn't owned one? Thought it was a must!)

Thanks for the opinions guys!

Mitch

It's funny you say that. It seems very similar to the whole you can't touch chameleons thing. I have a friend back in England that holds his green trees all the time. I think it's just a personality thing with them. Just there attitude is more like veileds (can be friendly but more moody then nice!)

I have a pair of green trees and a single female ball python. I think the green trees are WAY cooler. Check out the male in the pic in this link: https://www.chameleonforums.com/gravid-green-tree-python-37752/index5.html#post423869. I've had him since he was 10 weeks old and he just turned 10 YEARS old!! I have, however, been around a lot of snakes of friends' and working a couple years in a reptile-heavy pet store and he's the friendliest and most docile of any species I've ever handled. I'd much rather handle him than the ball. Stay away from the imports for success and find a breeder in the US and you're likely to have calm green trees that you can handle.

I've only ever owned a brazilian rainbow 15 years ago (boring, sold it), a spotted python 12 years ago (escaped somehow ), and the 3 I have now. The green trees are the only species of snake I've ever tried to breed and was successful two years ago and you can see the baby pics in the thread above, too. They took last year off but this year I let them breed again, choosing to let the female coil the eggs and go maternal incubation for the duration. Just a couple weeks til more baby snakes!

Go with the green tree.

Sooooo how much for your youngins my friend? :)

I got to say to with a green tree python. I love arboreal reptiles too. Ive seen plenty of snakes and was unsure if I should buy a snake too. I was deciding between a green tree python or an amazon tree boa. But I would definitely say go with a green tree boa .

I say neither! Anything that eats little furry animals is not for me! I have enough trouble feeding off insects!

I have always loved the green tree's but they have the biggest teeth of any snake I have ever seen. No more snakes for me.

We are very picky about our pets!

And I for one am not fond of any furry little creatures! Just like insects they are designed to be prey!

Nature chose who to be where on the chain and there towards the bottom!

So looks like the green tree seems to be the one? Sounds like the snake has a lot of respect too! Aha

Go for the green tree - I find them amazing, but the hubby won't allow snakes in the house. So, get the green tree and post lots of pics so I can live vicariously through you! :D
