bites!

Some will just sort of open there mouth and lunge/slap you. Some will give a quick little pinch .and some have some think they have a lock jaw.most male veilds have attude

I have been bitten several times by male chameleons. It hurts, lol. They can and will take a chunk of flesh. It's nothing compared to a medium sized snake or anything, but it does hurt and I would recommend being cautious if you have an overly agressive chameleon.
I have a male panther named Reggie who prides himself on trying to devour my fingers anytime I come near his cage.

Is he a sambava?

hahaha i have about a year old male veiled that things he is part pitbull part croc he locks and then goes in to a thrashing motion i cant get him to chill i been trying with no progress

I have had them take shallow chunks out of me and even bite through my fingernail and cause minor infection. Please be careful to thoroughly cleanse your wounds and treat them with ointment and cover them, just to be safe.

Most often my aggressive chams will head-swing first, as a warning. Then gape and pretend to bite. If I don't get the message by then the next bite will be for real, and some will lock on, like a bit bull, like others have said.

USE A HAND TOWEL AND GLOVES: When I have to handle or move a chameleon that is that aggressive the best practice (for its sake as well as mine) is to cover it with a hand towel and then gently loosen its grip on the branch to remove it from its cage.

The danger in a bite is to you, of course, but also to the chameleon because human nature is to instantly "fling" the cham off your hand or finger. You have to be prepared to override your instinct and not fling. Flinging will certainly cause serious injury and likely eventual death to the chameleon. Our one reptile vet said that most reptile injuries he's treated were the result of "flinging" impacts.

I have had to "calmly" go to my husband a couple times with a chameleon locked onto my finger or hand. An object then had to be placed in its mouth (from the side corner) and the jaws gently pried open enough to remove the finger (which, thankfully, was still attached to my hand).

Totall agree. Ive been bitten by a large male panther cham, and the instinct to shake him off was overwhelming. I managed to overcome it and not hurt him, but the pain was intense and it didnt even break the skin so probably a warning bite. The very same chameleon just killed a female the other day (they're not owned by me by the way!) he bit through her head and shook her like a rag doll. The pics i was shown were disgusting!

A Med-Large female Veiled did this to me last summer. Wasn't extremely painful, but it wasn't extremely pleasant either,...

She just split it, right there on the upper right part. I didn't give her enough time to do the 'Death Roll' and pull a chunk or flap. I must say, they power was just a little more than I expected.
