Using Live Plants

It is said plants like pothos, umbrella plants, and certain ficuses are good plants to use in your chams cage(s). But the question I have is about the potting soil; the care for the soil. How often do you change the soil and do you have to treat the soil before you use it? I never really owned or used live plants.

I know that you need to rinse off the plant entirely and rinse off all soil that is anything but totally organic, and then repot the plant in 100% organic potting soil. I also then cover the soil with large river rocks (I bought a bag of them in the aquarium section at the pet store) to keep the cham from eating it.

I don't know about replacing the soil, I would assume it is like with most live plant, that you may need to repot again into a larger pot with fresh soil as the plant grows, so it does not become root-bound and die.
