Right guys , this is my first post so please be kind :)

I have a male blue bar ambilobe chameleon , currently in a 5ft x 2ft x 2ft viv.

I have some questions which need answering, first one is, all the sides, top and bottom apart from the rear are melamine, the rear is ply wood and is getting slight mould on it, im thinking of a diy background maybe using styrofoam with branches and coco fibre with maybe running water tricking down or the mister spraying it ?

Second question is with regards to a DIY mister , im thinking of using a DC 12V 60W 5L/min Diaphragm High Pressure Water Pump rated for 80PSI this connected to the top of a bucket connected to some nozzles.

Third question is drainage im thinking of a drainage hole in the middle rear with 2 smaller triangles placed in both rear corners and then a bigger one covering the front corners making all the water drain to the hole, then pond lining it. Right would i be able to then add soil and plant live plants then covering with gravel (biggish) then making a filter to stop soil going down the hole ?

NEED SOME HELP GUYS :)

Welcome to the forum. You need to get rid of the mould by replacing mouldy wood and completely waterproofing his viv. He will have to come out of it till its done. Coco fiber could be encouraging mould and it could be a course of impaction. By trickling water, do you mean a waterfall? Your mister sounds good. You need to mist approx four times a day and let the whole viv dry out between mistings. Do you have any pics.:)

did you use any kind of sealant on the plywood to waterproof it?
I believe with styrofoam pieces may eventually fall off and if ingested by the cham might not be good. I'm sure you can prob find ways to design a background on the forum.

thats what i believe hoefully someone can correct me if i am wrong

Hi guys thanks for the fast reply , I will try and upload some photos tomorrow.

With regards to the waterfall i was thinking of getting the misting system to spray the background creating some type of waterfall.

If i used styrofoam then silicone it with some type of material is that any good.

Have you guys got any ideas for a 5ft tall 2ft wide background, due to the wood not being waterproofed at all :( my bad !

My first wooden viv was sealed with boat varnish. My next one is lined with melamine and the joins sealed with silicon. I always used coco fibre which helped with humidity but not any more as I did have problems with mould. Live plants solve humidity problem. Waterfalls do look good but IMHO they are a pain in the butt to keep clean. To prevent bacteria forming you will need to thoroughly clean it every day.

i would keep the live plants in their own pots or containers. making the entire bottom of an inside enclosure full of substrate for plants sounds like a nightmare down the road.
