Need Help with a type of chameleon

Today I stopped by a local pet store to pick up a few things and they had a pair of chameleons for sale. They looked very cool and they were ones I never heard of before (still alittle new to chameleons so they may be common). Anyways the one had two horns (I assume the male) and the name started with an "M". The one with the horns was very colorful.

Does anyone have an idea what they are and if so what a pair would run?

Thank you in advance
Rich

Probably a pair of Ch. montium. Here is a pic of a male:

The horn has another directly behind it. There is an article on their care here: http://www.chameleonnews.com/montium.html They aren't the best chameleon for a beginner.

Thanks Chris
That is it. A very cool looking chameleon and one I may be interested in down the road.
Could you also tell me what a pair of them may cost.

Thanks again
Rich

ChamFreak is that what you have seen them for?
I have no clue but before I tell you what they were asking for them as a pair I was wondering what everyone else thought on the price range.

ArrowHawk:
I would recommend against purchasing these chameleons. Like chris said, they are not good beginner chameleons and they are probably wild caught. Together this adds up to a very challenging chameleon to properly care for. Also, there are some serious ethical issues to think about when purchasing any animal. When that animal is wild caught, there is not much room to justify your actions in my opinion (at least for the average chameleon keeper). Purchasing wild caught animals from joe's pet shop will just give them incentive to take more animals from the wild. I wish I had the conservation section finished so I could point you in that direction.

Not a problem Brad. I'm not ready for anymore at this time. Like I said maybe one day down the road I may be interested in purchasing this type from a breeder but not at this time.

Right now I have:
(1) Senegal Chameleon (Male)
(1) Veiled Chameleon (Female)
(1) Beared Dragon (Male)
(1) Ball Python (Female)
(3) Yellow Bellied Cooters (Turtles)
(2) Parakeets (1 Male & 1 Female)

So taking on another anything would be alot. Maybe after I have the enclosures complete then I may add another Chameleon but it will be another Veiled (Male).

One day I would like to have a pair of the Montium Chameleons. I'll just add them to my wish list.

I have a veiled chameleon right now in a 55 gallon tank. I've heard that they are pretty aggressive and territorial, but what other chameleons can be put in the same terrarium with the veiled?

Hi...

I hope that 55 gallon tank doesn't mean an aquarium? Chams do much better in screened enclosures. As far as cohabitation, it isn't a good idea at all. Chams are solitary creatures, and don't do well with roommates. It leads to stress for both of them which can be deadly.

Some places to take a look at:

www.adcham.com
www.chameleonnews.com
www.chameleonjournals.com

I am sure others have some great sites they consult regularly also!
