Medical treatment question?

I have a male panther that used to rub his nose like crazy on the cage. I set him up in a free range habitat and I havent seen any signs of this since. Today I found what seems to be the starting of scabs or abrasions on the tip of his mouth. I will take him to the vet if this gets any worse but I was wondering. I have tobramycin ophthalmic solution USP 0.3 percent. I got this when I took my jacksons to the vet for an infected cricket bite. Would it be a good idea to start using this on my panther to see if I can clear it up before a vet visit is necessary. I also have saline solution. Like I said I will take him to the vet if it gets worse but I am trying save myself a 2 hour trip and back to the vet. Thanks guys.

What you're describing sounds like an eye medicine. Can you confirm the spelling?

Have you tried neosporin?

tobramycin ophthalmic solution. It wouldnt surprise me if it was an eye medicin. I think I need a new vet. He thought my jacksons had gout, turned out he didnt and the vet asked what I gutload with. I told him and he said to use dogfood which I know causes gout from high protien so. I havent tried the neosporin but will right now. Thanks

It definitely is a eye medicine

Good vets are hard to find. I guess theoretically, you could use an infection killing eye medicine topically elsewhere for certain applications, but I'd think it would be too weak. I'd use the neosporin and monitor the situation unless its worse than I'm picturing.

Thanks a lot. The cricket bite on the jacksons was the corner of his mouth. I dont know if the vet gave me that because of possible ingestion and it was safer? The situation isnt bad yet. I just noticed it and I always keep a close eye out for anything that looks different when I feed and mist. I am going to find a new vet asap. Thanks again.

Neosporin something similar should work. It's just an abrasion and that will keep it from getting infected. And yes, you need a new vet.

I didnt say anything to him when he told me that. He seemed kinda cocky but I knew already that wasnt a good thing. Is there a good vet finding site. Ive been searching but no luck. I am in Maryland also so if anyone reads this near there please let me know.
