Kinyongia Tavetana Pics!!!

Here are some pics of my tavetana. They arent the best. As soon as I come in the room to do anything they run to the middle of the sheffleras. These guys are really shy and nervous. When they dont know I am watching them they seem to be really curious cruising around the cages like crazy. This is a very cool species and I am so glad I decided to start working with them. Ill try for some better pics soon.

The female

You can really see the greens in her face in this one

I like him a lot. Your female concerns me though as she is covered in loads of black marks, insect bites? Injuries from being wild caught?

Thanks for replying Chamgirl. I noticed those also but just kinda thought they were her markings. Now that I look closer they do seem like some kind of injuries. They are wild caught and since your post I made sure there arent any ants or other bugs wandering her enclosure. They are cup feeding so there arent any left over cricks to chew on them. She seems to be very alert and happy. No signs of discomfort. Also I cant see any signs of infection. I will definatly keep a close eye out for infection or new soars. Thanks for the good eye.

Yes Night crawler its missing. I gave her a good run down after Chamgirls post. Yesterday was the first day I really bothered them because they are very nervous and I wanted to let them get used to things with out a big old scary guy messing with them. I would just clean, feed, and water then get the hell out. This may be why I missed all the dings, that and I am the type of person that tends to overlook things.

This is one of the reasons why I think species like this should be (for lack of a better phrase) taken more seriously. I havent heard of any CB in the U.S. or any real breeding programs for these and many other species. Wouldnt it be nice to get a great CB specimen than a beat up WC with parasites and other issues like being gravid and the place you get them off of neglects to tell you only for your new pet to die eggbound because of inexperience or it being your first cham and you havent found correct info on taking care of these? Obviously there is some sort of demand for them or they wouldnt be picking them from there homes and shipping them over here to be sold. More captive breds to choose from might equal less WC picked from there homes. I know new blood is good but it might help keep the numbers down. Sorry Im starting to ramble.

On a good note she seems really healthy, happy, and she has a good home so no more getting chewed up by bugs or cage mates or whatever happened to her. Even though battered she still is really pretty
