Keeping Pinheads alive and from escaping...
With the baby pygmies unfortunatley I am still having to keep pins. When I order 1000, they nearly all die or escape. I keep them the same way as the other crix-in plastic lidded tote(they can get through screen) with Roach Coach crix food from Coastal Silk and either potatoes, carrots, or leaf lettuce for moisture. Any suggestions? I can keep any other size alive forever.

We use bug barrier, no lid and keep the pin heads nice and warm always with food and water gel.

You can also line the bin with packaging tape before the screens of course. It is to slick and they cant climb past it. I am having the opposite problem. Half of my 3/4 crix always die and I have on had a few pins here and there die

I got tired of buying crickets so I attempted to breed them on July 11.
Ahem. I am now harvesting my 3rd "clutch" (sandwich container) of pinheads. Probably up to 2500 and still hatching! Compared to chams they are EASY (if you don't mind a little extra work) As the pygs grow, so will their food source.

http://market.kingsnake.com/detail.php?cat=68&de=593195 I like this stuff the best... Poo wont stick to it and if wash it off just paint some more on. I think they will send a little foam brush with it if you order. I use this with all my bugs and keep no tops on them for the best air flow.

I keep mine pretty much the same way Chad said, I just use packing tape instead of bug barrier. They can not craw up it.
