introduction and quick question

hi all, im darren from near edinburgh, im new to the forum here.

im a dart frog keeper and have a nice little collection in my heated out house, ive recently decided that id quite like to get myself a panther chameleon.

ive a couple of questions to ask before i get my hopes too high... ive done a little reading and the idea of a 'free range' cham would suit me down to the ground, as in my frog room he could do as he pleased, there is very little disturbance in there other than me going in to deal with the frogs. is the free range way of keeping these thought to be for experienced keeper only?

my other question is regarding water, would a nozzle run from my frogs misting system pointed at the tree and branches be enough or would he require more, my mister goes off 3 times a day for about a minute in total

Welcome to the forum! The only thing I've noticed that would worry me about free ranging all the time is my Cham gets very curious and if given the opportunity, will climb down off his plant and wander. He's always looking for an escape and they are VERY quick once they find one. As long as you make sure he can't get to the ground, you should be ok. I usually mist 4 times a day. I let the humidity drop to 40 before misting again. Best of luck!

thanks for the fast reply, love the idea of keeping one this way.

my out house is an old motorbike garage that ive insulated and dry walled, has kitchen units and worktops on 2 walls that are fully sealed into the walls ect, only hiding place would be behind the exo terra vivs sitting on the work tops. my only thought for escaping was through the door as i open it so was considering building an internal door as well as the main door, other than that it couldnt escape.

do they lick water up off the leaves to drink?

Welcome to the forums. I free range all my animals. Chameleons will wonder and roan around so you will need a safe area to free range...like a room that you can Cham proof or if he's very young you can start out with something like this and if your pot's large enough they can't get out. I use free ranges like his with my babies.

They mainly drink water while it's dripping from a dripper and sometime will like the leaves.
