This kid here is pretty awesome. I have not seen a almost silk slash leather back yet but this kid falls right in there. Not quit a silk and definitely has less scales than a leatherback.

Both of these are from the same clutch.

Hypo x Translucent x not sure what to call super reduced scales (we will see as he/she matures)

Hmm could it bea microscale? What are the parents, american/Italian leathers?

Because as I understand it when you have 1 gene of Italian and 2 genes of the American you get the Microscale leatherback, which expresses both the Italian Leatherback and the American Recessive Leatherback.

They are nice they from your dragons?

I have been introducing a few more to my collection. :)

I did breed these little ones. The mom is a silk back het hypo x translucent from two micro-scaled leather back dragons. The dad is a normal back translucent het hypo from dragons i didnt get to personally see with my own eyes.

I think many breeders are making up stuff to act like they are producing something new and then it has just followed suit down the road. With my own eyes i have only seen three different backs (itailian, american, silk). I have come to this conclusion.
I consider itailians to be micro scaled and americans are reduced scaled cause they have few tubercle scales on the back.

My belief and i could be wrong. I have yet to breed this combo out to be sure but... I think all leathers come from itailian leathers. It is a thought that a american is produced by breeding a normal back het itailian to a itailian leather or two hets breeding. I think that result is where you get a mix of itailian leathers and american leathers which have few tubercle raised scales on the back. Again i could be completely wrong but it is the only sense i can make of it.

I guess i need to breed a het leather to see...;)

Edit: I dont know why this slipped my mind.. Breeding a leather back will give you the two leather variations if bred to s normal.

I agree 100% people selling their dragons will come up with all kinds of terms to tie to the item they are selling. Its almost like the longer the description the higher the value they think it can bring.

Basically the types of leathers are as follows correct?

itialian - codominant
american - codominant
silkie - recessive

Silk is co dominant also but in a different way. I have only produced two clutches from my female at the moment. So far when bred to a normal back they produced 50% leathers and 50% silks. It is quite strange to me they did not produce any normals. i thought it would be 25% silk, 50% leather and 25% normal. Another breeding will have to confirm as the male i have bred with her i did not get to see the male and female to confirm any other hets.
