Help!!

Ok, so here is my problem. Crickets are eating through the screen of my DIY cage. My confession is that one of my worst fears is crickets (odd since I have chameleons, I know). But now, there are crickets all over my apartment! What I need help with is this. What kind of Lowe's/Home Depot screen can I purchase that they are not going to eat a hole through? There were crickets in my apartment hallway, and I know if my landlord saw that, he would be very unhappy with my animals. Can anyone please help me with brand or type of screening? I need to fix this problem ASAP! Thank you!

did you realize that with this post, it was your 666th? thought that was interesting...:p Anywho, I'm not sure if the screening would be any different at The Home Depot or Lowe's? I wouldn't think that the crix could eat thru the DIY screen, unless it was fiberglass? If you pick some up, just make sure it's not the fiberglass and check for the uv protection. Hope this helps!

Thanks to both of you! And that is hilarious, my luck exactly! It was probably fiberglass screen, knowing me. I found crickets in my bed, in my shoes, on my couch... AHH! I will go and get some aluminum screen this week. I have been catching crickets for the past hour, and duct-taping my lovely DIY cage... it looks so horrible now!

I forgot to ask: 1. did you see holes in your screen? 2. Are you sure that they're from the crix?

yea i feel your pain on the crickets.

and yes crickets eat your fiberglass screen.

get aluminum screen and youl be fine.

I am positive it is crickets. I found one hole, and thought it was just a fluke. I took my flashlight, and searched the whole cage. No more wholes! Got back from work after 12 hrs today, and found 7 new holes in various places of the cage. UGH. All holes were the same round shape, and I doubt Bagheera is that geometrically sound in making small holes. Camimom, might have to join you with the roaches eventually :)

i still keep crickets... but thats cuz two of my chams wont eat roaches.

jsut wait till you find a cricket in your shower.

one time a cricket made its way into my purse.. and i took it all the way to work.

it came out of my purse on my desk while in a meeting.

Dust vac... Must have it! And Camimom... Eww! I hate crickets, and I have felt one crawl across my feet before while trying to go to bed... Not cool! Glad I have yet to bring any to meetings at work, all of the women there think most animals without fur are disgusting... let alone the crickets that I feed them!

my one co worker loves my chammies. and my crestie. ( i keep my crestie at work).

the crickets are annoying.. but id still rather touch them than the stupid roaches.

What size cage did you get from DIY? I just checked their site and all but one have a description of HEAVY DUTY ALUMINUM Screen coated in plastic. The other one just says HEAVY DUTY SCREEN coated in plastic. Interesting...

Oh, and I'm assuming all of this based on a Vertical cage... ;)

It is an actual DIY cage that I made myself lol. There are pictures of it in my profile under Bagheera's photo album! I wish my chameleons ate pellets, I would rather not touch any bug other than my wax worms and butter worms :p I don't mind those! I intern at a vet's office twice a week though, and they absolutely love my chameleons (mainly because they are all patients there)

aha! Stupid me!! Well in that case, you just mighta bought the fiberglass screening by accident. Now we know the rest of the story... :D

Thank you for the compliment! Yep, it was a table at Walmart for $10, sturdy little thing and could not beat the price! Fits perfectly and doesn't take away from the cage! Called my boyfriend's dad (he was the leader in building my design), and he has agreed to help me replace the screen. I owe him several beers :p
