Handling.

I have a 5.5 month old blue barred ambilobe that I have had for about 4 weeks now. I have not handled him at all. He is very edgy (that's a nice way of saying he is constantly pissed off!), and puffs up and hisses with a gaping mouth whenever I put my hand near. He has actually lunged at my hand before! Having seen what a chameleon bite can potentially do on these forums I am very reluctant to try and handle him.

As I am now coming up on a month of taking care of him, I need to do a major cage cleaning, but I am not sure how best to go about getting him out of the cage with minimal stress for him and me. lol.

1. Should I don a pair of gardening gloves? Or am I just being a chicken??? Any other way of getting him out of the cage without having to handle him (coaxing him onto something?)?

2. Also, where should I keep him when he is outside of the cage?

Any tips here would be appreciated.

I usually find that a bit of dowelling offered just under his chin can tempt him on to it then you transfer him to a plant outside his cage, remember to move slowly around him and talk to him so he is used to you, patience is the key but the reward will be greater when you finally get him onto it, mine is used to me so much if i go anywhere near the viv he is always there right at branch at front waiting to get onto my hand lol
