So i went to the Expo with a few extra bucks. I currently keep a pair of Painted Mantella frogs. The kids seemed to like frogs so DartFrogs was the obvoius next step.

I like to have them involved in their pets and care. So below will be pix while i help them build the tank.

Ari (my 4 year old) and her D. azureus

Sophia (my 2 year old) and her D. leucomelas

I had a Betta in a 2.5g tank and evicted him, lol . He is in a nice planted tank. ;). I like this 2.5g because it comes with a glass lig and glass divisions. I'll be using this to QT any future frogs.

Screen in. Sphagnum moss soaking in some warm water

Frogs are great! :)
I have painted mantella and darts also :)

You'll find they like to climb (more than the mantella do), so a taller and bigger tank (I like the exoterras) with some branches and more plants will be the way to go. Add a little water dish (the lid off of a peanut butter jar would be sufficient). BTW most people dont recommend keeping the two types together.

Yea. I'm building a 18x18x24 ExoTerra for them. Should be done in a few days. It will have a water feature and lots of plants and climbing room. This 2.5g is just to hold them till it's done. One will make a trio and a pair out the 2 types. One group will go into the Exo Terra and the pair will go into a 10g vert.

This is off topic, but I just have to tell you something that I have been thinking for a long time. There needs to be more fathers like you in the world.

I am a teacher, and what I see you doing with your girls is not something I get to see very often, especially with younger dads. You are not just buying things for your girls, but you are letting them experience life with you, and they are gaining a very valuable education along the way. You should be proud of yourself, they are going to grow up to be great women because of you:)

Nice frogs, BTW!

Thanks

But I'm just using them to get my wife to let me get more reptiles. lol j/k

I'm pretty heavy into the Auto Racing scene. I would have hoped for a boy to share it with. But instead I got 2 beautiful girls which i tried to get into cars and they were not having it. So i went to Plan B which was my love for animals and they love every minute of it. #WINNINGG

It teaches them a lot about responsability and they welcome it with open hands if they get to do "fun" stuff like handle and feed their pets.

Honestly i didn't have a father figure in my life ( i know of him, i just don't care to have him in my life.. Long story). I don't want my kids to have the ill-feelings i have towards my father about me. It made me a better man, so i guess i should thank him?!?!

The D. azureus will stay more on the ground I would recommend keeping him in a vertical 10gallon the like the floor space. The leucs on the other hand will use every space you give them I have a trio in a 18x18x24. Glad to see you made the leap to dartfrogs you will enjoy the leucs calling. Did you ever find some female electric blue daygeckos. Iv been looking for 2 more and am beginning to think I will have to buy pairs and sell the males.

kennedy - you dont find your auz climb? my cobalts sure do, and my friends azureus climb a lot too

Sandra, my azureus climbs also. Usually I find him on the top of the plant and sometimes scaling the glass. Great frogs, fun to observe . Can't wait to get them into a nice planted larger enclosure

I was told most tincs dont climb once they settle into there tanks. My cobalts stoped climbing about a month after being in the tank. I dont have an azureus so cant confim that with personal exp. ITs funny though every frog is different .

Must have missed this. I tracked down a female (unfortunatly i'm pretty sure she is WC and they would only sell her as a pair) So i have a female and ANOTHER male coming in the morning. I'll QT them and eventually intorduce her to one of my CB males and follow in your footsteps.:D. You have 3 eggs now?

with enough clutter they dont feel the need to have to climb and escape.

Cool new pick ups jon :)

also have you gotten the tinc sexed? my guess would be female. Males have larger toe pads and somewhat heart shaped. if it is female then you may have some aggression problems. but it may not be mature yet.

They are not sexed. Still frogletts . I would say they are 3/4" long.

no, I dont think that's it. I have a large terrarium with lots of hiding places and leaf litter. They seem to climb to hunt down favourite foods and just because they so easily can. Might be that I've set up the space in a way that easily allows climbing?
