Here is a copy of a thread shown in a French forum with some very good pictures for those who wondered (like me) what follicular statis look like.
Kinyonga did the translating (yes, she can read French!!) as i do not plan to take credit of it!
"Here, for those who do not know what follicular stasis looks like, it is when a reptile female does not mate. I'm certain of it but you will be able to judge the space which it takes in a belly and why the females quickly decline.
The first one is two ovaries in good health.
Then following three pictures, the ovaries are in follicular stasis. Attention, each bunch corresponds to an ovary!!
The last picture is made of egg bindings that are fertile
By the way, all the animals were not dead but still under the influence of the anaesthesia when the pictures were taken. "
I'd also add a last comment from Kiny herself on the pictures:
"If you look at the pictures in the link you gave me you will see that in all the photos except the last one the "eggs" are almost round...that indicates that they are follicules still and have not ovulated (moved into the uterus).
The oval ones in the last picture were ready (or almost ready) to be laid...but couldn't be laid. "
Hope you guys enjoyed the pictures!
