Fischer's Chameleon (Kinyongia fischeri)
Hey everyone,
As of 2006/2007, K. fischeri was only known from 5 males and 3 females. Since then, more have been found and I was just fortunate enough to pick up what are probably the first true Fischer's chameleons to be exported from Tanzania. They are two males but I am working on having females sent in the next shipment for them. There is a lot of confusion within the "fischeri species complex" or "two-horned species complex" as to true identities of different species that are available so I've also included photos of other species that are available in captivity so that people can see how they differ. Kinyongia fischeri - Fischer's Two-horned Chameleon Range: Nguru Mountains, Nguu Mountains, Tanzania Male: ![]() ![]() Female: ![]() ![]() Similar species: Kinyongia matschiei - The East Usambara Two-horned Chameleon Range: Eastern Usambara Mountains, Tanzania Frequently used, albeit erroneous names: "B. f. fischeri", "Monkey Tailed Fischer's Chameleon", "Giant Fischer's Chameleon" Male: ![]() ![]() Female: ![]() Kinyongia vosseleri - Vosseler's Usambara Two-horned Chameleon Range: Eastern Usambara Mountains, Tanzania Frequently used, albeit erroneous names: "B. fischeri sub.spec.nov.", "Undescribed Fischer's Chameleon" Male: ![]() ![]() Female: ![]() Kinyongia multituberculata - West Usambara Two-horned Chameleon Range: Western Usambara Mountains, Tanzania Frequently used, albeit erroneous names: "B. f. multituberculatum", "Standard Fischer's Chameleon" Male: ![]() Female: ![]() ![]() Kinyongia tavetana - Mt. Kilimanjaro Two-horned Chameleon Range: Mt. Kilimanjaro, Mt. Great Pic's and much appreciated post!
Fishers, even in captivity are an underrated species in our hobby, But I feel its growing. I must say I have fishers (for years), and Feel they are truly special, fun Chameleons to have and work with. They are moving Chameleons, and not lazy, from sun up till sun down, from what I have experienced. I am glad to see more people checking these out! |

Just bought a fischers
I just bought a fischers cham and was wondering what type of fischers it is. The person I'm buying it from said it was the standard fischers, which I think is the K. multituberculata, I was wondering if that is correct. I also think it could be the K. vosseleri. Could you kindly identify mine please. Here are some pics of 4 out of 6 available fischers he has. It's from his website:

Spork - Those are K. multituberculata.
Titan - The "fischeri group" is very underrated in my opinion. Some of my favorite. Which species did you used to work with? Sang - Their tails really are incredible. They are so long relative to their body length. Chuck & Syn - Glad you like the pics. Chris |
