first dubias

DUDE i just got my first shipment of blaptica dubias (thanks to mulberry farms:D) and i have never been squimish about bugs, lizards, gross stuff and what not BUT when i opened the box and saw the clear container with the super large dubias crawling around i was kinda thrown back a little. I looked into that container for a couple of minutes or so before i attempted to free them into their enclosure. I then let them out into the aquarium atop egg cartons i had prepared before they got there which i was even more grossed out because of the scattering and noise they made before hiding under the egg cartons. I then decided to give some to my female veiled which by the way has never had before. I don't really have a question but just thought i would share my first roach experience.

I felt the exact same way and the noise got to me the most. My stomach was doing flips. Here's a tip, don't keep a lid on the enclosure, they do stink IMO.

haha haha

They are good feeders though:D

I dont think they stink though, crickets STINK:eek:

Roaches smell like roses:rolleyes:

I heard they are odorless. But since you say they "stink" I would cut out most of the top of the lid and make it screen.

Mine just smell earthy, but only when I stick my head the the tank... I like them :) it kind of tickles when they crawl on you, just don't let one go in your shirt!

I am with you all the way!!! crickets reek to high heaven. Maybe it is because I have a screen lid or my roaches but they don't stink. Same lid on the crickets and ughhhh.

I haven't found my crickets to stink? Clean them and change the stuff you let them hide in..?

EWWWWWWW! Thats where I draw the line!:)

Maybe it was the fresh veggies that stunk, plus I had 1,000 in a 29L aquarium.

Yeah that could be it!

My one prof. at university keeps a huge colony of Madagascan hissing roaches in a fish tank in his living room and swears that they dont stink AT ALL!!!!!! haha i guess its probably the food that goes off before they can eat it

Crickets when dead give off this choking fermenting alcoholic smell

The only thing i didn't like about my order was that they gave me more adult male and female which i cannot feed off because of the shear size of them:rolleyes:(bigger than hissing roaches)
