Last Thursday we picked up a few chams off craigslist. The owner had an ambanja/nosy be male cross from the Kammers Bilbo, and a lovely female Sambava from a local breeder. Each is about 10 months old. He was planning to breed them together when mature enough. We will probably want to breed the Sambava after she is a year old and are wondering if it is a good or bad idea to breed her with the ambanja/nosy be. We are willing to get a male Sambava, if that would be a better idea. Thank you, in advance, for your recommendations. Here are photos of the 2:

Hi there! Good clear pictures and pretty chams I would personally not breed those two for one particular reason. It's likely that you will end up with offspring that you don't have room for. You will then sell or give them to someone else. Then those people start doing something with them and putting some further crossed locale bloodlines out there. I do not object to someone crossing locales for a personal project and their enjoyment. The problem, for me, is when that project starts expanding outside to other people. Most of us are probably pretty good about documenting our breeding projects and informing buyers or people we give the offspring to about what they are getting. We keep things straight. Unfortunately, not everyone is going to be careful in this way.

I personally believe (and remember this is only an opinion) that as lovers of this species, that we have an obligation to preserve, in captivity, the process that is going on in the wild. Certain locales may overlap and meld over time in the wild. But other locales do not have any overlap in the wild and should be kept separate. Just my opinion.

Do you know the origin of the female Sambava? She is very nice looking. I would get a Sambava male for her and start your own Sambava breeding project. I would take your male and breed him back to a Nosey Be or Ambanja female or just enjoy him for what he is. I have had an Ankaramy/Nosey Be male hybrid for a year and a half. He is absolutely georgous. He was sold to someone as an Ankaramy purebred baby and then sold to someone else as the same. Later that person put him up for sale on Kingsnake as an Ankaramy purebred sub-adult. I saw him on Kingsnake and could tell he was not a purebred. I bought him though as a one of a kind male to keep purely for my own enjoyment. I have never bred him. He is a great "pet" and I thoroughly enjoy his personality and his unusual beauty. He fires up like a pink Ankaramy and at rest he is a beautiful blue/greenish blue Nosey Be. The original breeder probably bred a beautiful Ankaramy male with a female who was not the locale she was supposed to be.

Sounds like a plan. I do appreciate the input, and I felt the same way after studying these 2 and reading up on panther morphs. Are you going to the show October 20-21 as an onlooker/shopper, or are you bringing some things with you ?

Sounds great. We'll contact you before that weekend. We are in church activities all weekend, so we may be attending at odd times of the day. I would love to be there when it opens, in case there is a limited supply of something, or "that perfect chameleon", but, alas, we won't be able to do so.

Royden is planning to go, too, as far as I know.

Where is the show at???

Puyallup fairgrounds, Puyallup, Washington State. It is a Northwest Captive Breeders Expo, so, there isn't expected to be a WHOLE lot of chameleon action there. Unfortunately.

Well that is too bad, I would definatly spend the weekend on the other side of the mtns. But, I want to see some chams.
