How to create an automated dripper.

I have posted a few times recommending that chameleon owners set up an automated dripper for their chameleons so that they have access to plenty of water when you are not at home. I know pain of trying to dial in the gravity fed drippers, like the little dripper, and promise that this works infinitely better.

Supplies:
1) Tom's Aqua Lifter pump, or similar
2) Reservoir of some kind. (2 Liter bottle, 5 gal bucket w/ lid, etc.)
3) 1/4" drinking water tubing.
4) Timer that allows you multiple on off rotations throughout the day
5) 1/4" in-line flow control valve

I would order the pump online. I was able to find the aqua lifter pump for $2 on Amazon, but it is usually around $13. The tubing, timer and reservoir can easily be found at your local hardware store. The line is the same size that is used in most refrigerator water dispensers, so it is common. All told the cost is ~$25.

Tools:
1) A cutting instrument of some kind. Scissors, box cutter, sharp knife, etc.

2) A drill and bit or other way to make a hole for the 1/4" tubing.

Directions:
1) Find a suitable location for the pump and reservoir. Make sure you find out what the head height is on your pump and place the bottom of the reservoir not much below the max. With the aqua lifter, I have found that it can handle 3~4 ft if you place the pump at the top of the cage.

2) Make a small hole in the cage and set up the tubing from the pump to the desired location in the cage. Then cut this section of tubing in the desired location of the flow adjuster and insert the flow adjuster. I usually make this outside of the cage so that you do not need to bother your chameleon if you need to make adjustments.

2) Drill a hole in the lid of your reservoir big enough for the 1/4" tubing to fit in. You should also make a small hole for air.

3) Cut and place the tubing from the bottom of the reservoir to the pump.

4) Plug the pump into the timer and the timer into the wall. Adjust the flow valve to the desired flow rate and the timer to come on for the desired intervals.

That's all there is to it. Now you have a cheap and easy way to get your chameleons hassle free water for days. :)
Some pictures are attached showing the finished result. Let me know if anything needs clarifying and I will try to post pictures showing what I did.

Way to get creative. I was not familiar w/ an aqua lift pump until now. I know what my next project will be. Thanks for sharing your ideas.

Nice. One question though...in your instructions you say to place the flow device after the pump but before the cage. But your photos seem to show it between the reservoir and pump.
