Zoomed's latest creation...

Anything to make a Buck! I wonder why the vibration, to make the volcano realistic I expect! More crap from the Crap company!

So, that is basically an ultrasonic humidifier, isn't it?
Sort of a vamped up reptifogger.

But, I agree.. too gimmicky especially with the "glowing red light":rolleyes:

They would put "good for chameleons" statement on anything they need to sell...sigh..

EDIT: JoJackson, ultrasonic humidifier ionized the water by vibrating metal diaphragms using ultrasonic frequency.

Oh I see! Well that makes all the difference, Ill order a dozen! :D

A volcano is kind of like the obligatory treasure chest in a fish tank. Doesn't toot my whistle.

Damn ! How could sb buy something like this ?

everyone has different tastes.
what is "art" to me, could be trash to you.

like what was said before, some folks might put a stupid treasure chest bubbler in their fish tank.
not my taste, but there is nothing wrong with it.

in this case, the use of a humidifier if needed, is a good thing.
the fact that it doesn't look like a "tree" or "bush" should not make it silly.
in fact, if you think of it, it's more natural looking then just a plastic box that humidifys the air.

My take is that the color changes and vibrations could be potentially stressful. My opinion is that it is horrifically ugly!

Lol you've got to be pulling our chain Harry! :D

Fess Up, how many did you order? :p

On a serious Note, julirs, Im not sure I agree that colors, changing or not, of inanimate Non-chameleon things would particularly bother a chameleon.
Why would you think so? A chameleon is geared to recognition of other chameleons of the same species. They are surrounded by moving colors in the wild, plants, bugs, birds etc.
Ive not seen a reaction in my veild from bright changing colors yet.

Well, I have had chameleons freak from random movements of light on a picture frame that was behind a cage. My male Veiled detests anyone in the house wearing red. Why did you not argue the movement part of the thing? I am not so sure that many trees are vibrating in the wild.
On another topic, I have seen two severe cases of MBD with proper lighting, and supplementation. Both cases had a severely vibrating ballast in their UVB fixture. A scientific hypothesis-but that is how the studies start.
As far as my chameleon care goes-why risk it???

They missed the mark completely. Why not just make practical products? This is way to fisher price....

I meant trees/flowers blow in the wind, birds and bugs fly etc. As always there are exceptions to every rule, but in general it dosent make much sense unless you consider its movement of a highly visible thing, even light, might be confused with a predator perhaps.
Re the movement/vibration part, because I agree. Chams are supposed to communicate with vibration level sound, so its not too far fetched to assume vibration might upset them.
E.G
Crocs often attack boats because males use vibration of water on their backs
coupled with underwater roars to warn others out of their territory.
A boat motor has the same effect, so the dominant male may challenge the newcomer.

I dont understand the theoretical connection between stress from vibrating light ballasts? and MBD though!

a) it does not vibrate as far as I can tell.
b) it does have a red light, but so what? I'll stay away from your veiled if I have a red shirt on, ok? lol
c) if it works well, and is needed, what's the harm?

it is nothing like a vibrating ballast that will clearly not put out the "right" waves of light...thus poor or no UVB output.

is the thing silly? yes. but if it works, again, what is so bad with it?
am I missing something here? just what is so wrong with such a thing if someone wanted to use it?

Thats a possibility I suppose, though sketchy.

In the eye of the beholder I guess Harry. In my eyes its cheap commercialism, 'lets come up with up with a new gadget, or rather a new take on an existing one, sales have dropped". :)

In my opinion those companies make themselves not reliable. Their products aren't accepted by breeders and serious keepers. Their products are just for the growing number of people who first buy their animal and then care for the enclosure etc., for those who don't inform them before the buy of an animal

so it would be more acceptable if it were in the shape of a box and not a valcano?
just how is a "box" shape more realistic or accepable in an enclosure?

it's like all the fake plants you see in many of our cages...if they work, I see no problem with them.
regardless that my tastes might not like fake plants.
