Found this in the nearby PETCO today

I told employee what they were doing wrong.
She said this was the first chameleon they ever had and she would tell a manager.

I have a feeling she wont say anything

The cham is the middle of the pic. If you look hard you can spot it.

it dripped onto a rock and then a inch later flowed onto the moss substrate

and at least its about 40 bucks cheaper then petsmart.


keep in mind, not even the managers have control over the animals they recieve. the store is hooked to a network with all their sales. every time one is sold, a new one is shipped and its all electronic, i had a 2 hour conversation with a few petsmart staff/managers.

some couldn't care less, while others showed great concern. its all a matter of were you are at.

what "atuthorities" would even know how to take care of a chameleon in the USA or any country for that matter?

the sad truth is that this is not a zoo.
it's a petstore.
all animales are kept to be sold as fast as posable...not how they should be kept once you get it home.

just look at almost any animal in any pet store...
almost none are in proper cages or are overcrouded and poorly housed.

feeders are even in worse housing then the pets.
hell, I'll bet not one of you are keeping crickets in proper housing like they should have.

STOP LOOKING AT PETSTORES LIKE THEY ARE A ZOO...they are far from it, and not designed to permanatly house any animal.

is it sad, yes. but get over it. that chameleon is lucky he/she is at least all alone in that junk enclosure.
try telling that to the 20 male and female hamsters that should all be in their own cage.

I have a friend that works at petco. She is always trying to set things up the "right way", but is always getting hassled over it by her higher ups! They try and keep all the reptiles in the same rack at the same temps. We adopted three crested geckos that were permanatly screwed up from being kept at 90 degrees with a bowl of water!

At least its Green!! All the ones I see are really dark. And they have thing sin the cage.. Not the right things..but its something. I dont condone this at all, but like Harry said, they are temp homes. I just hope IF it gets out, it goes to someone who wont continue its life down the path its been on.
