I believe it is thought that they are trying to mimic leaves swaying in the wind.

yeah, I think they call it the leaf walk or something like they are imitating a leaf blowing? I am not positive on this so maybe someone will chime in on this and correct me if I am wrong!

Mine leaf walks hardcore when he moving in to attack a feeder, its so funny. Who he think he foolin?

I would say he leaf walks more hardcore depending on his level of interest in the feeder. Today was day 2 with my recent hormworm purchase and he really took to them. you should have seen him jerking at those worms (sounds dirty sorry) as he was moving into position, lol.

haha nice..;)

If you think about it, worms are not that smart so they are most likely fooled by the twig that is swaying in the wind that suddenly grabs it with its tounge.

Both my chams are used to me and don't do it that often any more. Amy leaf walks and rocks big time when she's outside and the breeze blows on her!:D They usually do it when put on the floor or outside - somewhere that they are not familiar with.

Pedro rarely ever does that LOL.
Only when my nephews go up to the cage to look at him hes like "who are these midgets??"
When I go to feed him he doesnt do it either, he just RUNS over to my hand to be fed LOL :D
He always acts like hes a starving child

i seen on some chameleon doctumentary video, (i believe "the Chameleon's Kingdom") that chameleons do this when feel threatened in the wild. they do this as a sign of caution on their part, as a poster said "to mimic the leaves". it is interesting to know that in the wild when a chameleon does this, they sway back and fourth with every movement of wind, they will let the wind determine their pattern and speed. my chameleons have never once done this in captivity, which i believe means they are more than comfortable and content because i have fan going in my room at mostly all times as well.

it could very well also be a hunting technique, but when mine are about to launch they do it any other normal way, they will bob back and fourth sometimes standing on their two back legs, but never did a "dance walk".

this action regardless is a pretty fun and cute thing to see

i just got a panther this weekend and he is all about doing the leaf walk, but he does do it more intensely when he is about to catch something. its super entertaining.
