well heres my advice...

1. Lose the glass cage, get a screen cage
2. I don't know what 26 watts is for, but my basking lamp is 60 watts, and get a Repti Sun 5.0 UVB Light setup
3. I dont know how much 30 Celcius is but I live in Arizona, its 108 degrees ... so it says 38 celcius.. so i imgagine you have it around 80.. lets just make sure its in mid 80's , and and night a 15 to 20 tempature drop in farenheit
4. I don't know what spider plants are, but I don't like them from the sound of them, I only have Ficus Benjamina, someone can probaly tell you more about spider plants if its safe or not
5. More live plants help humidity also, and I think your chameleon is becoming dehydrated... she's definitley trying to get rest during the day, all these are concerns but drinking water is your issue.. you said you havent see drink water... somehow you need to get her to drink water
6. and i hope your not giving him 25 crickets and 4 worms in a day, if so thats alot!! like way too much
7. Poop what color was it? Just black? White? Black and White?

Hopefully more experience chameleon keepers will have more answers for you, my concern like you said , she had her eyes closed when you purchased her from the pet store, we really don't know what kind of condition she was in and for how long... it can be multiple things

GOOD LUCK!! I WISH THE BEST FOR MIGUEL!

I don't think that spider plants are a problem. A lot of people have them here as indoor plants. They grow crazy like pothos, and my cats and dogs are always eating them.

Bonjour!

I think that you should either take her back or take her to the vets. The owner shouldn't have sold a chameleon to you when there was already a problem with it.

In the meantime...do you know what lights (brands and types...compact, spiral, long linear UVB, etc.) were on the cage?

Regarding eating/drinking....you can try to get it to drink by dripping water on the tip of its nose slowly and if it drinks put a cricket in its mouth to see if it will eat it. (I usually squish the head of the cricket so it can't bite the chameleon.)

Regarding your setup (BTW...since you've only had it three days this is nothing to do with the chameleon's problems)....

I have raised many chameleons in glass cages with screen lids but whether its okay for you depends on where you live. Since you live in Canada...it should be fine as long as you make sure no stagnant water sits on the floor of the cage and as long as you put the basking light in one corner on the screen lid.

If this is the bulb you bought, I would recommend the Repti-sun 5.0 long linear fluorescent tube light instead. Some of the spirals have caused eye problems...but I have no idea if the one you have it one or not. (UVB from either the sun or a UVB light should not pass through glass or plastic.)

For a basking light I use a regular incandescent household bulb of a wattage that puts the basking temperature in the range of 26 to 28C. IMHO it should be in a hood.

I'm not a fan of fountains since they are difficult to keep clean/germ-free. Also, you might not see her drink....but if the urate (white part) has no orange color to it she should be.

You said you have a Spider plant...its listed as non-toxic. What are the vines?

You said..."she come to me when i open the cage"...so are her eyes open then??

You said you gave her flour worms (I assume you mean mealworms?) and crickets...what size were the crickets? I'm not a fan of mealworms..I don't use them. Did she eat what you gave her? Did she have her eyes open when eating?

I use Rep-cal without D3 at most feedings, Rep-cal with D3 twice a month (dust lightly) and Herptivite twice a month.

You said..."She had her eyes close when purchase.... The guy told me to put polysporin for 2 days".....IMHO the guy sold you a sick chameleon and he should have made sure it was healthy before he sold it.

If you are going to advice people to skip the "glass cage", give a reason for it. I personally used them for 15 years without as much as glitch. Did anyone actually see any evidence that a glass terrarium was the cause of any problems, or is it just something you repeat in forums?

The 26 watts are the tube I guess? I would get some more light in there, use low energy compacts, try to get one as close to 6500K and/or a real daylight tube.

There should be a spot where she can sun bask, around that it should be cooler. Not 30 C all around, thats too hot. Night temps are fine, just make sure its dark.

I cant tell what your enclosure is like, but more plants are usually never a bad idea. Hard to get too much.

You should regard these animals as aquarium fish, you dont handle them. When they are young like this, they will quickly try to "escape" and climb a high secure spot. In this case its you. As young they can give the impression of "comming to you", but that is just an impression, nothing more.

She looks to be in pretty good condition, it should be quite possible to help this one. There are some debris around her face, has it been there all the time? Have you seen her rubbing her head/face, puffing her eyelids?
You could mist her gently for a few minutes just in case she got dirt in her eyes, and to make her drink. Use hot water in the sprayer (heat it up, dont use hot from the tab). Test it on your arm, if its nice and lukewarm to the feel when the mist hits you, then its just about right.

There is also this:

I dont know it this is still an issue, but it could be something to take into consideration.

I would recommend a vet visit and find out exactly what's going on with her eyes and get the proper medication for her. You need to treat her eyes so that she can open them to be able to see to eat and drink.

Thanks everyone.....

I decided to bring her back to the petshop:( .... will let you know what going on next.....

Welcome to the Forum!

I think you have done the right thing. I would not get another chameleon until you research more on how to set up your new chameleon.

The best plan is to first address the cage, basking and UVB lighting, temperature, water source/collection, and feeder insects, THEN get the chameleon. I did the same as you, and lost my first chameleons due to ignorance!:(

I would like to see you do better!

Nick

She have her eyes open on and off since this morning and she eat a lot ;-) is it a good sign???? Should i keep her????

I agree with Nick, I also lost my first chameleon due to ignorance and an impulsive buy. Definitely do alot of research before you even consider taking on one of these awesome creatures. Also test run your enclosure for a couple days before making your purchase or bringing it home to fix any immediate glitches.

That is a good sign that she is eating and opening her eyes. If you take her back to the pet store most likely she will die. If you give her allot of care and get your set up, lights and supplements correct she has a good chance of making it. Give her plenty of long very warm mistings for those eyes. I would still recommend a vet visit to find out what is going on with her eyes and make sure you have the correct medication for her eyes. Do you know of a good chameleon vet?

ya research is the main key.. and the glass setup i guess depends where your from.. because I live in Arizona.. i dont think a glass setup would be perfect in the middle of the summer in Arizona... but GOOD LUCK for your next chameleon
