Taking one of my panthers to my local vet for the first time just for a checkup. How do I tell if this vet is a good vet to take my little guys too? any vet advise??

vets that know nothing are no fun...could always drill them with questions about your setup and stuff
pretend ur completely new to owning a cham and dont know much, see how they respond...if they answer right, give them the green light, if they give u dumb info that u know is wrong, bleck, find a new one..HerbsForMyChameleon

You should ask about their reptile experience before you go so you don't waste your time.

seriously, question them. dont be afraid of being mean or condescending. ask them questions you already know the answers to. if they answer them wrong ask for a reference. ive gone through so many vets that act like they know hat they are talking about. to no avail. maybe im juts in a bad part of the state
Then don't be surprised when they treat you the same.
There is not a class on chameleons in vet school. Most vets don't have any classes on reptiles or exotics at all - most vets may never even see an exotic. Luckily there are usually optional classes for those who want to see them. Even though they may not know a ton about them that doesn't mean they are useless or unwiling to learn. You could work with your vet on the finer details of husbandry and let them use their medical background and resources to help you. Of course some won't be interested, but it's worth a try in case they are, rather than just being a jerk.

Also depending on what size city you live in there may be an "exotics" vet that specializes in herps, birds etc.
Vets with experience will also ask you alot of questions as well. They may ask what your enclosure, temps, humidity, how long in your care... When they ask these questions they will tell you if they are right or wrong. If they have experience they will usually be in agreement with what is recommended here on this forum by experienced keepers.

Yes i did. he first gave my female vit a to help her poor eyes.. but that didnt help.. then he tried ampicillin to try and treat infection i think is what he told me. anyways.. here is her problem thread. help would be very appriciated.
