Using non uv cfls for added illumination

Just wondering if anyone else is using non uv cfls to brighten up cages . They run at only 13 watts for one equal to 100w incandescent also you don't have the added heat. For neonates the can double as a very low heat basking bulb. Ever since i started using them as a secondary light source i have seen a noticeable difference in color and alertness or maybe its cause i can see them now lol

Yes I do for the very same reason too. a 23watt=125watt nice bright light that penetrates the flexarium mesh well, no heat output. I found regular incandescent bulbs (heat source) and the UVB tube lighting insufficient.
My lizard is much more active, and color the best It can be indoors.

Note: Im using one with a reflector, pointing dowward from the top rear corner , away from the basking/drinking area, and away from where he climbs upward (much).
Also through black flexarium mesh in a tall enclosure (6ft)
I wouldnt recommend the use of adition compact flouro lighting directly over a cage itself, where the cage is less than 48" high , or glass (glare), rather in such circumstance, lighting the room itself brighter might suffice.

As always, I recommend the use of outdoor basking in natural light as often as possible as a priority over any artificial lighting.
Cheers :)
