supplement question

It's now winter where I live so I can't take yoshi out for some natural sunlight. I think the high for yesterday was 20 degrees F  Anyway I know the forum suggests giving calcium w/ D3 twice a month, but he isn't going to have any natural sunlight for at least 4 more months. Should I give more D3? No offence to anyone, but please only respond if you know what your talking about.

Thanks

You do have a proper UVB light on the cage, I assume? No glass or plastic between the chameleon and the light?

The idea of giving the D3 twice a month is to make sure that the chameleon gets some without overdoing it....and allowing it to produce the rest of it from its exposure to the UVB. The most often recommended UVB light is the long linear fluorescent Repti-sun tube light. (BTW...I use the Rep-cal calcium/D3 for that...it makes a difference what supplement you use as to how much the chameleon is getting.)

I believe I have the ideal lighting. I have a linear reptisun 5.0 that I change every six months sitting directly on top of a 2x2x4 all screen cage. I also use all rep cal supplements as directed by the many fine members of this forum.

As long as you have proper a UVB bulb that is changed at least every 6 months and good supplementation (Ca alone every other feeding, Ca+D3 every two weeks and Multivitamin every two weeks) then you are recreating natural conditions as much as possible and he should be fine. Where I live it's either too hot or too cold for my chams to be outside for more than most of the year. I stick to good indoor husbandry and haven't seen any problems.

About twice a month for indoor chameleons under good UVB lighting is standard - however it does depend on the BRAND of D3 supplement used. Some are more/less potent that others.
