Suggestions for higher heat tolerant species

What species might you recommend for setting up in half a snake room for breeding chameleons?

Something that will do well in a room that may drift in the mid 80's day temp, mid to high 70's (or low 80's) night temp.

My only thoughts as of yet are Nosy Be's, as I think F. pardalis will do well in our snake rooms - just fond of Nosy Be's.

Are there any desert species on the market?

How would some of the dwarfs and pygmys do?

Thanks

To properly simulate temperatures of the climates of any chameleon species you are going to need a good night time temperature drop. You said something above about desert species. Thats ironic considering the fact that the temperature drop in most deserts at night is more dramatic than in most habitats. Desert species such as C. namquensis are notoriously hard to keep in captivity because of the wide range of temps needed to keep successfully.

I will lower my temps and shorten photo periods in the winter time to simulate nature keeping my panthers in the low 70s ambient temp and 85-90 deg basking temp during the day, then on down to as low as 60 at night, but usually around 65 with moderate humidity. Not saying that you cannot keep certain species warmer and have decent success, however if you plan on breeding I would consider a separate room for chameleons so you can fine tune your husbandry to the chameleon species etc...

See ya,

Todd
