Question about the eggs?

I just looked in at my eggs tonight and saw that they looked a lot different from the first day. The first day they were all a solid white. Now they have a reddish color all around them. It started as a little dot but it has grown all around the egg. Is it the blood vessells? Is it normal to see like this? At what month should they look like this? Will they go away? Or could they look like this until they are born? They all look plump and everything, no dehydration or mold. This is my first time so I have no clue what to expect. Is there anyway to tell how far they are a long? Any help would be great. Thank you.

You said..."they have a reddish color all around them"...I'm taking this to mean on the outside of them not inside them....or am I wrong? The blood vessels will be on the inside and only visible if you candle the egg. Good eggs glow pink inside when candled.

Did she lay the eggs or did she die and you took them from her?

How long have they been incubating? How are you incubating them?

If the eggs are good then they should grow in size from about the size of a jelly bean to about the size of a grape. As they near the hatch date they will likely develop marks on the shell (I call them windows) that look more translucent. Also, as they near the hatch day, they will likely sweat and shrink in as the water inside them is expelled (and you will think they are going bad and wonder if you should add more water). The baby will/should make a slit in one end of the egg (like an X) and stick its head out. It will lay there looking dead for anywhere from a couple of hours to a couple of days while it absorbs the remaining yolk and then it will/should come out of the egg.

A picture would help...just like Vegas Chad said.

I'll post a pic as soon as I get home, but to answere your questions:
She laid the eggs in June so it has almost been 6 months. I have them in a small container with perlite. The temperature has been about 70-73f. When you say translucent do you mean you can actually see them inside the egg? When will this happen, how close to the hatch date? I'll post a pic as soon as I get home later. Thanks for your help

You said.."When you say translucent do you mean you can actually see them inside the egg?"...no, you can't see through the egg...they are just marks that look like the egg is thinning out. They have almost a brownish look to them. You can see what I'm talking about in this picture....

You said..." When will this happen, how close to the hatch date?"...a couple of weeks usually.

Cool :)

Very cool pictures :) It looks like they have broken diapause. The flushed pink color indicates they are growing blood vessels, etc. You can actually see the blood vessels in one of the pictures if you blow it up. I think things are looking good. Keep doing what you were doing with them :)

Does anyone have a weight chart of veiled chameleons starting from or close to the day they were born? I found one on here but it started at 2 years old. I would like to make a chart of my own when all of my eggs hatch and compare it to others just to make sure I'm on the right track.

not to interrupt your conversation but i was considering getting a female. I have a mature male veiled. what is the time frame form laying to hatching. i know temperature can make them develop faster or slower. i saw a post earlier for pather eggs. they hatched in 6 months i thought it took longer. or are veileds different from pathers?

ok thanks i just need to find a female with good bloodlines. my male isnt what you would consider a pure bred. lol he turned out good for a petstore tho

A few questions that didn't get answered and am wondering what they are.

1. How much longer until the eggs hatch based on the pics of the eggs?

2. Should I raise the temperature of incubation? Current temp. is 70F

3. In what month should the eggs look like this (with blood vessells)?

no dont change the temp , use what is working for you , they all seem fine and look healthy so i wouldnt change a thing on them , but the reason why we have eggs that take longer to hatch or earlier to hatch is on how well the embryo is developed in the egg , thats why we have some early bird hatchers and the later bloomers hatch , its just some eggs are way more developed then others so they mature quicker and hatch in a quicker time, so they hatch when they hatch and when they wana hatch ahaha tounge twister. so just be patient and they should hatch for you , how long have they been incubating for ???

Its been almost 6 months since they were laid and put in the perlite. How far along do they look. I thought that you could see blood vessels with in like 2 months or something. By the pictures of the eggs, how much longer do you think until the hatch. Just a rough guess.

hey wst0209a if you go to pohchunyees post of 6 months of incubation , go see his eggs when they have those like lil hair line fractures they are close to hatching time so just be patient its a waiting game , but i couldnt tell you when they should roughly hatch im just geting into panthers and breeding them , i just got a pair of nosy bes panthers that are a month and half old so maybe someone else like pohchunyee could help you out he seems to have an art with these reptiles hahah but again they look good so just keep on waiting ahah i know you want them to hatch now but befor you know it there hatched

 Ummm. Now you got me worried. I looked at his post and then went to look at my eggs. I see many many eggs with the lines starting to form at the tips of the eggs. I hope I am wrong because I thought I had more time to prepare my self. Now I am really nervous. Not sure if I am right but I am really nervous now. Thanks a lot boothy. lol. But really thank you for the other thread. Looks like I am going to busy getting prepared this week. I really hope they wait a little bit longer so I can get more prepared.

ahaah dont worry soo much you will give yourself a heart attack ahah but this week get prepared for them cause it could be anyday or a month away its just alot better to be prepared for them so when the time comes for them to hatch you just walk over and put them into a enclosure and wait somemore ahah and feed somemore and water somemore ahahah but i wish you the best of luck with these eggs they look like plump lil guys ahah
