ok hello all im new... Im having major issues with my chameleon ... sorry for the grammer im in a rush. I have a pantherchameleon about a bit over 1.5years from screameleons.. he was doing great had him for bout a year and things started goin wrong ... He had his right eye close on me again so I wasn't to worried because he was sick before and I treated it. It didn't get better and I didn't know what to do because there was no puss. I misted him daily with the showers and it didn't help. He isn't active during the day anymore and sleeps during the day as well as night only opening his eyes to feed or get water or climb to another part of his cage and barely his eyes have also sunken in especially the right one inside his head . When he does open his LEFT eye his pupil is small and I dont even think he can see becuase he has trouble getting around. Maybe its time to change my uvb bulb( i just changed it to the 5.0 repti sun w/e its called...? and I have no vets here specialzing in reptiles in brooklyn, new york . He wont eat and is barely hydrated and getting dehydrated by the minute I appreciate all the help again.
my enclosure is a large exo terra not sure of size its the mesh one.. 100 watt heat bulb and the 5.0 repti sun uvb etc... I need help he can barely move and you can see his eyes can barely open like he has no energy he sleep during the day hanging upside down with his tail and has no energy to hold his legs up ... he cant even change colors he stays yellow and red... and I dont think its mbd but might be because he has onesmall black spot on his lower left limb that is seperated by the other colors thanks alot I really need this help and im sure hell be gone in a day or too please help asap.. thanks

also i noticed i remmbered a bit back when he did move his eyes he would clean em out like that in those mbd pics but it would like hes jus cleaning em out and he wouldnt keep em like that? thanks alot I appreciate it

First of all make a vet appt now! THat animal needs immed vet care. The first priority is getting the animal re-hydrated. If he is too weak to sit on a plant in the shower then you will need to give him fluids with a dropper or syringe by mouth. If he hasnt eatten in a long while you can mix pedialyte in with the water and give that to him orally. But that is in addition to seeing the vet now! Part of being a good owner is giving the animal vet care when needed. If you cant do that then you neeed to give the cham to someone who can properly care for it. JMPO.

This is the best way to get the help and pictures are very valuable. It could be so many different things. Explain about his prior illness and what medication was prescribed.

How to ask for help

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is some recommended information to include when asking for help in the health clinic forum. By providing this information, you will receive more accurate and beneficial responses. It might not be necessary to answer all these questions, but the more you provide the better. Please remember that even the most knowledgeable person can only guess at what your problem may be. Only an experienced reptile veterinarian who can directly examine your animal can give a true diagnosis of your chameleon's health.

Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care?
Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon?
Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders?
Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule?
Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking?
Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?
History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.

Cage Info:
Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?
Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule?
Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?
Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?
Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?
Location - Where are you geographically located?

Current Problem - The current problem you are concerned about.

Pictures are helpful

At a brief glance his temps may be too high with that 100 watt heat bulb, especially since it's summer and temps are increasing seasonally.

Photos would really help. Also please fill out the questionnaire Draetish posted (from the health clinic sticky on this forum). Be very specific in your answers. For instance, is your UVB 5.0 bulb a long tube or a compact bulb?

Sometimes these issues can be cleared up with a few simple adjustments to the caging/husbandry. THe key is not to panic or get discouraged. We'll look for your answers to draetish' questions.

Can you post some photos and fill out the "how to ask for help". By doing this, experienced keepers may be able to point you in the right direction. Best of luck to you and your chameleon.

He may not have a vet per his post:

and I have no vets here specialzing in reptiles in brooklyn, new york

TPMan is right, start fluids right away! Sit in the shower and hold him if you have too.

texas you must be very ignorant telling me im a bad chami owner when I take excellent care of him why dont you read what I wrote there are no reptile clinics in brooklyn as a mtter of fact new york and noone here specializes in reptiles I brought one of my other reptiles to an inexperienced guy and he killed him.. i keep giving him water and i notice he is opening his mouth alot today but i dont think hes hot... i brought him outside right now to give him some sun and its maybe 85 at most in basking so i pour water in his mouth when he opens it he does it for like 10 sec maybe and then closes it.. and ill try to post some pics soon thanks

There are vets in NYC! You need to quit saying that there are no qualified vets in your urban area. If my chams are sick I will go anywhere I have to to get help. Quit saying what you cant do and start taking a proactive response to the animals distress. You my friend are a poor owner and keeper. You stated the cham has been having issues for quite some time and you let them go unchecked by a vet or by asking others on here for help. So you can keep bashing me for stating the obvious or get off your a-- and get to a vets office.

I HAVE CALLED EVERY AVAILABLE VET FOR CHRISTS SAKE AND THEY SAY THEY ARENT EXEPRIENCED WITH CHAMELEONS AND DONT WANT TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY IF YOU DONT WANT TO HELP DONT .. this problem hasnt been there for a while... I meant to say 2 -3 days where im trying to get as much info as I CAN alright

Then call your local herp society for nyc. They can give you a list of qualified reptile vets in your area. Just because they dont specialize in chams doesnt mean they cant give the cham some med attn.

Here just focus on the chameleon for now. Post pictures of the chameleon and the enclosure. Keep close eye on the temps and make sure it isn't getting to hot and your chameleon has plenty of places to escape heat if need be.
